Agreement signed at company’s headquarters in Madrid
Gamesa will be in charge of operation & maintenance for the company’s 2,286 megawatt (MW) capacity in these countries over the coming three years
This company will also be in charge of providing the same services at IBERDROLA’s three wind farms in Hungary, which have a combined capacity of 108 MW
IBERDROLA has awarded Gamesa the operation and maintenance of 80 of its wind farms in Spain and Portugal, facilities with a total installed capacity of 2,286 megawatts (MW).
The two companies signed an agreement today at IBERDROLA’s headquarters in Madrid. Under the terms of the contract, Gamesa will be in charge of maintenance for the next three years (a term that may be extended for a further two years), on 1,143 of the company’s wind turbines, each of which is equipped with Gamesa technology and has a capacity of 2 MW.
IBERDROLA has also commissioned Gamesa to provide the same services for three other wind farms belonging to the company in Hungary, with a combined capacity of 108 MW.
Operation and maintenance are of key importance in ensuring the efficiency, availability and profitability of these facilities. For this reason, IBERDROLA applies very demanding criteria when choosing the companies that carry out this work.
This agreement follows another signed by the two companies at the end of 2011, in which IBERDROLA awarded Gamesa the maintenance of a further 1,748 MW of 650 kilovolts (kW) and 850 kW in Spain and Portugal.
All of these contracts consolidate Gamesa as the company of reference for IBERDROLA, as it is now responsible for the operation and maintenance of facilities with an installed capacity of 6,000 MW, as well as being the leading manufacturer of wind turbines.
The most important wind farm projects currently underway also incorporate Gamesa technology. For example, this is the case with the 10 wind farms the company is building in Brazil (combined capacity 288 MW) and with its first wind farm facilities in Asturias, which were recently connected to the grid.
IBERDROLA is the leading company worldwide in the renewable energies sector, both in terms of power (with a capacity of over 14,000 MW at the end of 2012) and in terms of electrical output (almost 31,800 million kilowatt hours generated in the first three months of the current year).
