Invenergy LLC, a Chicago-based leading clean energy generation company, and EastEdge Energy G.K., a solar and wind power development company in Japan, announced today the formation of Invenergy EastEdge GK, a strategic joint venture focused on renewable energy generation in Japan.
The announcement comes as Japan seeks additional renewable energy resources directed at greater energy independence. The country offers good solar and wind resources, a favorable investment climate, and public support for renewables.
“EastEdge Energy is excited to join with Invenergy to develop sustainable, clean energy resources throughout Japan,” said Jason Holt, a founding partner at EastEdge Energy. “With Invenergy’s expertise – evidenced by the more than 7,100 MW of clean energy generation the company has developed worldwide – and EastEdge’s strong network of local partners, we look forward to building a large portfolio of renewable energy projects in Japan.”
In building a foundation in Japan, the venture will seek to partner with large property owners and local governments interested in utilizing all, or a portion of, their land to host solar or wind facilities. In turn, such project participation will provide landowners and local communities with an additional, diversified source of income and jobs.
“Invenergy is delighted to expand our international scope of business into Japan,” said James Shield, Chief Development Officer at Invenergy. “Through this partnership, we have the expertise and resources to develop, permit, finance, and construct a large portfolio of renewable energy projects. We’re excited to begin utilizing this expertise by teaming with landowners and other project participants in Japan.”
Invenergy and its affiliated companies develop, own and operate large-scale renewable and other clean energy generation facilities. North America’s largest independent wind power generation company, Invenergy is committed to clean power alternatives and continued innovation in electricity generation. The company’s home office is located in Chicago and it has regional development offices throughout the United States and in Canada and Europe. Invenergy has developed more than 7,100 MW of clean energy projects that are in operation, in construction, or under contract, including 58 wind, solar, and natural gas power facilities. For
