Solarcentury welcomes Opening of National Solar Centre

April 25th, 2013 is a great day for British solar with the opening of the National Solar Centre in St. Austell, Cornwall.

As a founding partner, Solarcentury is proud to support this key initiative for the greater good of the entire UK solar industry.

Frans van den Heuvel, CEO said:“Solarcentury has always aimed to be at the forefront of solar development in the UK. Back in 1998, our engineers worked with the National Grid on some of the first ever connections in this country. Now we are installing parks in excess of 10MWp. As the industry matures, we are pleased to partner with the National Solar Centre and to contribute to this centre of excellence.”

The Centre will drive product innovation and excellence throughout the British solar industry. And so, it is fitting that Solarcentury’s flagship C21e solar tile will be on display at the launch.

C21e solar tiles and slates, invented and developed in-house by Solarcentury, epitomise a vision for modern Britain. The product family was named to symbolise the future of roofing in the 21st century, where homes are powered by the sun. Having won the prestigious Queen’s Award for Innovation, C21e demonstrates the heights that British solar can reach.

Solarcentury and Cornwall have a long history. In 2005 we built a stunning architectural system at the flagship Education Centre for The Eden Project. We have worked with Cornwall County Council to install systems on 38 schools and public buildings. And we worked with Lightsource Renewable Energy to build a solar park at Wheal Jane on the former tin mine; one of the very first ground mount systems to be connected in the UK.

Solarcentury is one of the most respected solar companies in the world. Founded in 1998, we have been around since the early days of the solar industry and have been part of the evolution that has made PV the attractive investment it is today. We have put solar on a greater variety of sites than any other company in the industry, and have won multiple awards for product innovation.

We work directly with our clients to design and install commercial, industrial and utility scale solar. We also supply our products and services to installers and distributors. All of our customers benefit from our experience in terms of engineering quality, superior yields and sheer breadth of deployment.

We are a big believer in helping solar PV change our world for the better and contribute 5% of our net profits every year to the charity we founded, SolarAid, which aims to eradicate kerosene lamps from Africa by 2020.

Solarcentury has offices in the UK, Italy, The Netherlands and a growing presence in Africa and Latin America.
