Hydrology is the study of how water moves through the earth’s crust. As well as water’s return to the ocean and the atmosphere. Essentially you are studying how water affects the surrounding environment. The work of hydrologists is important for many areas which includes flood control, environmental protection, and obviously water quality. To work in hydrology, or hydrogeology, you need to have an analytical mind and have good problem solving skills. There are also people and communication skills involved as you will be advising companies and organizations about how to comply with environmental policies regarding water. As a hydrologist, will find yourself testing and using technology to monitor water quality. For some with hydrology jobs, this could mean being outdoors and in the field in all types of conditions. Whether the weather is good or bad. You can also find yourself in a lab conducting tests, running experiments, recording results and compiling data on water.
