Length of Assignment: 12 Months Purpose This position is responsible to support the Senior Manager, Customer First Regulatory Application (may be the Director in some states) for studies, projects and research and analysis for specific regulatory affairs and or rates issues for Liberty Utilities. Lead the preparation and implementation of rates filings and regulatory filings required at the state level. Has primary responsibility for specific studies and defending same with local regulatory commissions/authorities and other key partners while ensuring that the policies and procedures of the organization align with all applicable laws and regulations. Provide other regulatory leadership and advice as needed. Accountabilities Regulatory and Governmental Outreach/Regulatory Filings + Directs, prepares and compiles the company’s regulatory applications and filings process to obtain all necessary permits, licenses, certificates, authorizations, and rate approvals. + Establishes and maintains good relationship with regulatory authorities. + Liaises with regulatory authorities and commission staff and participates in industry forums to influence regulatory policies. Advisory to management + Prepares analysis and provides advice to company’s management on emerging regulations and developments in industry. Compliance + Review and interpret new pending local laws and regulations, which potentially affect the organization's business practices, and coordinates the development or revision of policies, procedures, contracts, and agreements to ensure compliance. + Monitor up-to-date information regarding federal, state and applicable laws and regulations as they relate to filing requirements for regulated utilities. Updates key management on regulatory changes, developments and implications of new requirements on functional areas. + Implement and lead all aspects of a framework to ensure the utility is meeting its compliance requirements in an accurate and timely manner. Internal support + Mentors and provides advice and guidance to other analysts within the organization Other Requirements + Creating financial analysis on cost allocation. + Researching and summarizing information on regulatory environments Education & Experience + Bachelor’s degree or college equivalent in Finance, Regulatory Compliance, Accounting or Engineering + 5 to 10 years’ experience + Experience in utilities is seen as an asset Algonquin Power & Utilities Corp is a North American diversified generation, transmission and distribution utility with $10+ billion of total assets.
