Job Description:

The Department of English at Louisiana State University (LSU) invites applications for a tenure-track Assistant Professor of 19th-century British literature and culture, with a preference for Victorian, beginning in August of 2024.

Located in Baton Rouge, LSU is the flagship land-grant institution in Louisiana and a Research 1 University. We support research and teaching in a broad range of fields and many interdisciplinary programs.

Requirements: Ph.D., with expertise in 19th-century British literature and culture, by the time the position begins (August 2024); record of publication or strong promise of future scholarly achievement. Preference given to candidates who can teach and direct research on Victorian literature and culture as well as on poetry and prose of the long 19th-century broadly. We also seek candidates who are able to foster an inclusive environment inside and outside the classroom.

Teaching Expectations: The teaching load is 2/2 and consists of graduate and undergraduate courses in 19th-century literature and culture, especially Victorian. The new hire in this position is expected to teach undergraduate courses in the annual rotation of English 3022 (Survey of British Literature: Romantics, Victorians, and Moderns) and serve on graduate dissertation committees.

Research Expectations: Competitive candidates should maintain an active scholarly profile on par with the expectations of a Research 1 Institution. The College provides support for research and faculty development.
