For the last 200 years, racial injustice and systemic oppression prevented opportunities in Bonton that were a given elsewhere. People here experienced higher rates of diabetes, stroke and cancer, and 48% of residents lived in poverty. Overview of role: 

We are seeking a Farm Operations Director which oversees and coordinates all Farm Operations for Bonton Farms. The Farm Operations Director will oversee all aspects of farm operations, including planning, budgeting, communication, compliance, and supervision, ensuring that all farm practices are in compliance with local, state, and federal regulations, while also ensuring that we produce high-quality produce and goods in a cost-effective manner. 

Management – Essential Functions 

  • Uses technology to improve productivity and optimize farm performance.

  • Ensures that each location maintains inventories on assets and production records, and complies monthly and yearly reports.

  • Identifies and secures equipment and supplies needed.

  • Oversees marketing of products sold, including scheduling and transportation.

  • Oversees and coordinates pesticide storage and use according to manufacturer's recommendation and established Bonton Farms safety procedures.

  • Maintains records related to the purchase, storage, and use of pesticides.

  • Ensures workers use appropriate personal protective equipment.

  • Collects and analyzes experimental data including pasture use and livestock inventory records, and management of computer database files.

  • Perform other job-related duties as required

General – Essential Functions

  • Develop and Implement Bonton Farms safety policies and perform all work in a manner that ensures the safety of the public, fellow employees, and themselves.

  • Plan, organize, and direct Bonton Farms and its farm operation programs.

  • Develop a schedule for feeding, caring and cleaning of animals.

  • Monitor and maintain health conditions of animals.

  • Train, schedule, supervise, and evaluate farm operation leaders and volunteers.

  • Maintain good public relations with participants and their caregivers.

  • Purchase and maintain program supplies.

  • Maintain budget of expenses and revenue.

  • Provide written evaluation of programs.

  • Maintain a clean and orderly environment at all times.

  • Maintain a safe and secure environment for staff and participants.

  • Maintain open communication with supervisor and subordinates.

  • Maintain records of program operations including incident/accident reports, staff attendance, and sign-out sheets.

  • Produce weekly work schedules and complete payroll.

  • Attend required meetings.

  • Communicate regularly with Executive Leadership regarding all aspects of the farm including needed

  • Repairs, program updates, and staffing issues

  • Open and close the farm


  • Must be able to organize, plan, and implement multiple projects simultaneously and complete by their respective deadlines.

  • Must be able to resolve differences and problems that arise with staff, participants, volunteers, partners, and sponsors in a professional manner and in the spirit of Bonton Farms mission.

  • Must be a self-starter who is able to work with little supervision.

  • Must be able to supervise and lead a young, inexperienced workforce.

Environmental & Physiological Considerations

  • Outdoors in hot, humid, sunny weather.

  • Must be able to lift supplies and equipment (approximately up to 50 pounds) when needed.

  • Exposed to various odors and sounds associated with farm activities.

  • May be exposed to many weather conditions including rain, wind, extreme heat, etc.

Cognitive Considerations

  • Must be able to represent the Bonton Farms in a positive manner.

  • Must be able to work well with people, resolve problems fairly and with judgment in keeping with the mission of Bonton Farms.

  • Should be safety conscious at all times.

Required and Desired Qualifications: 

  • Bachelor's degree in applicable field or the equivalent combination of education and experience.

  • Five years of related experience in farm management operations.

  • Recent supervisory experience in an ag environment with demonstrated leadership skills.

  • Proficient computer skills, familiarity with Microsoft Suite (Word, Excel, Outlook). 

  • Bilingual Spanish skills highly desired.

  • Must have a valid, in-state driver’s license.

  • Strong interpersonal, presentation, and communication skills, written and verbal.

  • Must be able to perform the physical requirements of the job which includes lifting and carrying repetitively up to 50lbs. 

  • Must be able to accommodate the regular farm schedule of 40-60 hours per week, in addition to work nights and weekends, per business needs.
