Basic Function
The basic function of the service technician is to troubleshoot, diagnose, maintain and repair commercial HVAC systems. The Service Technician is responsible for performing those operations as assigned to them by the Service Manager or Dispatcher. They are responsible for maintaining the quality of their work, maintaining acceptable company standards, and representing the company in a manner that promotes good relations.
Essential duties
- Be neat and clean at all times and keep their truck and equipment the same.
- Take direction regarding scheduling from the dispatcher.
- Diagnose, maintain, and repair equipment properly the first time at the location.
- Keep the Dispatcher informed at all times as to “where they are”, “where they have been”, and “where they are going”.
- Complete service ticket/paperwork for maintenance and service work while on the job and turn it into the office at the earliest convenience.
- Recommend/sell equipment, service agreements, and accessories when it is requested by the customer or is in the best interest of the customer to do so
- Follow through on any issues/requests regarding each call you are on.
- Collect payment for services rendered where required.
- Adhering to proper procedures in the use of paperwork (work order, return material tags, etc.).
- Responsible for having all minimum required stock on the truck at all times.
- Attend all training classes and training seminars to keep education/knowledge/skills current with changing demands.
- Other tasks as requested by the service manager, operations manager, or CEO.
Qualifications
- EPA Certification.
- NATE certified or be working towards HVAC certification.
- Ability to represent TCMS in a professional manner with customers, vendors, staff, and the general public.
- Works well under pressure.
- Must have a valid drivers’ license and a good driving record.
- Must have all required tools.
- Ability to handle difficult customer/diagnostic issues.
- Adaptability—the individual adapts to changes in the work environment, manages competing demands, and is able to deal with frequent change, delays, or unexpected events.
- Good communicator – works well with different customers and office personnel personality styles.
Working Conditions
- This position works in the field and may be exposed to driving hazards.
- Adherence to Safety Policy and Driving Safety Policy is vital.
Physical Demands
- The physical demands for this position are heavy. Must be able to lift/carry up to 50 lbs.

- Self-motivated and able to handle rapidly changing priorities and several tasks simultaneously.
- Must be able to respond to difficult situations with customers and coworkers with a high level of professionalism.
- Must be able to communicate effectively with vendors and coworkers.

- Communicates and interacts with employees on all levels in the office.
- Sets an example for employees in the company.
External Relationships
- The position will have a high level of contact with customers and vendors and will be required to maintain professional communication and appearance at all times during work hours.
