Job Description

Essential Responsibilities

  • Deploy Verdesian EHS strategy, policy, and standards in the site to achieve sustainable results. Assess the current Safety Program's strengths and weaknesses and then implement improvements.

  • Drive safety and environment risk assessment and develop/implement appropriate controls.

  • Influence plan management and drive safety and environmental leadership through line management.

  • Create and implement needed new methodologies (such as "Employees Participation" and "Safety Committees") that will enhance and improve worker safety.

  • Monitor site legal compliance, ensure the site meets all local/national regulatory requirements and Verdesian standards, advise on federal EHS legislation requirements & implement relevant procedures and policies.

  • Conduct independent audits, reviews, assessments, surveys, site visits, and spot checks of our facilities, personnel, and equipment to ensure compliance with applicable codes, regulations, standards, and company policies.

  • Work closely with Corporate EHS personnel to identify and mitigate risks that may lead to occupational ill health.

  • Provide employees/vendors with comprehensive EHS training and ensure new employees/vendors are well-informed regarding EHS requirements before starting work, emphasizing and explaining all applicable hazards and precautions.

  • Provide monthly reporting on the site EHS Program's performance status and trends.

  • Oversee and support applications for and the receipt of necessary regulatory permits.

  • Lead all safety-related groups and meetings (Safety Committee, incident investigations, etc.)

  • Develop and implement EHS training and programs for all employees and supervisors

  • Lead LEAN projects (5S) within the plant working with employees in each area to make improvements

  • Ordering and handling of personal protective equipment (PPE) for the plant and monitoring inventory to ensure production can continue

  • Ensures that safety data sheets (SDS) are maintained, audited annually, and readily accessible when needed

  • Maintains records of discharge of or employee exposure to hazardous waste and/or pollutants, as required per EPA and DOT regulations

  • Responsible for an overall improvement in the execution of STA's (safety task analysis)

  • Developed, implemented, and trained supervisors and employees on emergency action plans

  • Manage to Be Aware, Take Care Program with employees participation, daily hazard reviews, and corrective actions

  • Developed and reviewed accident investigations, corrective actions, root causes, and safety alerts

  • Reported and calculated weekly and monthly key performance indicators

  • Manage the compliance calendar and immediate corrective actions

  • Minimum 6 years of industrial EH&S professional experience

  • Minimum education of BA or BS degree in a related field

  • Board Certified Safety Professional desirable

  • Certified Forklift Instructor desirable

  • Knowledge of Utah and South Salt Lake City EHS requirements is desirable

  • Experience with VelocityEHS is desirable


  • Some travel is required, including overnight (up to 5%).
