We have outstanding opportunities for **two part time Gardener 2 (NE S WFSE Campuswide) positions** (20 hours per week-= 50% FTE).

**DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES** Basic Function
Performed skilled work in the care and maintenance of institution grounds, landscapes, parking lots, pathways, exterior structures, fields and/or greenhouse. Under general supervision, perform skilled tasks requiring knowledge of cultivation, and maintenance of trees, lawns, ornamental plants, such as soil testing, pruning, transplanting plant material, and applying chemicals.

These positions are designated as the ones that perform an essential service. This means that the positions’ incumbent must continue to report to work in the event that the University suspends operations because of severe weather, natural disaster, or other emergency conditions.

Primary Duties and Responsibilities:

+ Prepare soil for and perform planting, transplanting of seed, sod, turf, bulbs, plants, trees, and shrubs.

+ Perform mowing, pruning, fertilizing, and irrigating of lawns and gardens.

+ Clean, service and maintain tools and equipment, including power equipment.

+ Application of pesticides and herbicides for greenery and plant material.

+ Maintain adherence to safety policies and procedures.

+ Use a variety of manual tools and equipment, such as rakes, hand edgers, loppers, pruning shears, shovels, pitchforks, hoes, fertilizer spreaders and pesticide sprayers.

+ Operate power and motorized equipment such as trucks, blowers, light tractors, front-end loaders, lawn mowers, Gang mowers, forklifts, edgers, chain saws, small trucks, backpack blowers, lawn vacuums, and snowblowers.

+ Rake and remove leaves; pull, hoe, and control weeds.

+ Remove debris, leaves, brush, snow, and ice from areas such as walks, stairs, roads, ramps and parking facilities; apply ice melter, sand and gravel.

+ Install and maintain campus signs, fences, rockeries, etc.

+ Read and interpret blueprints for projects.

+ Accomplish all work in compliance with the federal and local requirements.

+ Assist with outside vendor coordination for repairs and installations to meet quality and contractual requirements.

+ Install, Operate and maintain irrigation systems.

+ Load and unload materials and supplies.

+ Direct the work of others.

+ Operate vehicles such as UW vans and trucks to transport tools, equipment and personnel to various job sites.

+ Communicate and coordinate with other UWT shops to facilitate work.

+ Know and comply with occupational health and safety regulations specific to the work and conduct on the job, including Safety Data Sheet (SDS) instructions, Hazard Review Checklists (HRCs) and the use of personal protective equipment (PPE) as required.

+ Comply with all UW and UWT Facilities protocols, policies and procedures.

+ Support all management directives and the vision and values of IFM.

+ Actively participate in meetings and training as scheduled.

+ Provide excellent customer service through effective, courteous and professional interactions with clients, colleagues and the campus community.

+ Perform the duties of Gardener 1.

+ Continuously promote a safe work environment. **MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS** Physical ability to do required work AND one year of experience or training involving grounds maintenance, plant care, cultivation and landscape installation OR Equivalent education/experience. **ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS**

+ WA State Pesticide/Herbicide Applicator’s License required within six months of start date.

+ Demonstrated successful ability in taking direction, working well with others and as member of a team.

+ Demonstrated excellent effective verbal and written communication skills.

+ Possession of a valid Washington State driver’s license.

+ Equivalent education/experience will substitute for all minimum qualifications except when there are legal requirements, such as a license/certification/registration. **DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS**

+ ISA Certified Arborist Credential.

+ Training/Experience with Rain Bird Irrigation Systems.

+ In-depth knowledge of plants and gardening techniques.

+ Experience making grounds safe for community during inclement weather events.

+ Knowledge and practical experience with WISHA (Washington Industrial Safety and Health Act) and OSHA (Occupational Safety and Health Act) regulations.

+ Demonstrated proficiency with standard productivity software including Microsoft Office Suite or equivalent products. **CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT**

+ Work may require access to confined spaces and heights using approved safety precautions.

+ Ability to safely work in all types of weather conditions (rain, snow, ice, wind, etc.)

+ Ability to lift and move heavy material may be required.

+ Must be able to be fitted for and wear a respirator on the job.

+ Regular and predictable attendance is required.
