Job Description:
The Industrial Safety Engineer applies knowledge of safety regulations and sound occupational safety principles to support all aspects of the BWSR, LLC overhaul and construction operations. He/she identifies, interprets, and implements safety and health requirements as appropriate for assigned tasks. This shall be accomplished by participating in project development activities, reviewing drawings and plans, and conducting walk-downs of work locations. The Safety Engineer will evaluate the implementation and effectiveness of functional requirements, and provide feedback to management regarding the effectiveness of the requirements, and whether they meet applicable regulations and·contractual obligations. In conducting these safety functions, , contribute directly to achieving significant company objectives, and serve as an advisor to management. The Safety Engineer will be involved in a broad range of safety and health topical areas associated with refurbishment and construction activities.
Description of Essential Duties:
- Work independently, identify, analyze, and mitigate safety hazards through the application and development of advanced industrial safety techniques.
- Acts as a resource in monitoring and evaluating how effectively line management implements safety requirements and programs.
- Conduct self-assessments and safety observations.
- Work independently, provide technical support to line management regarding implementation of safety requirements, principles, and concepts.
- Lead in developing project/task-level procedures to ensure that applicable safety requirements are identified and integrated into the associated work documents.
- Support the Safety and Health Manager as requested, and provide safety leadership and consultation to coworkers.
- Analyze data related to accidents and near misses. Assist management and employee safety team members with accident investigations and in determining root causes.
- Lead the administration of federal, state, and local regulations.
- Monitor work activities to ensure employees are in compliance with the task work document and the Job Hazard Analysis (JHA).
- Perform other safety-related tasks as assigned.
Education and Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree in Construction Safety, Industrial Safety, Industrial Hygiene, or other applicable engineering/science degree plus 6 years relevant experience.
- CSP or CIH certification is a plus.
- Must obtain and maintain appropriate radiological controls and other necessary qualifications.
- Previous experience in the nuclear or radiological field is desirable.

- Ability to prioritize job duties and work in a fast-paced environment.
- Excellent oral and written skills to effectively communicate with employees, supervisors and customers.
- Strong team player with the ability to develop effective relationships with internal and external customers.
- Must be a U.S. Citizen - no dual citizenship.
- Must obtain and maintain a DOE "L" security clearance - current clearance a plus
