Summary:


The Micro Lab Technician will be able to assist finding the root cause of high organism count.  Prevent organism growth through working with sanitation and maintenance for all equipment.  Prioritize micro lab work to get finished goods results out in a timely fashion. Must be motivated to be in compliance with various food safety testing protocols and spend time researching new equipment and methods.


Duties and Responsibilities:


• Manage day to day operations of the Micro Lab


• Staffing of the micro-Lab and Techs coordinating testing schedules


• Ordering supplies


• Maintaining food safety systems, environmental sampling, and finished product testing


• Report results of testing


• Maintain records for USDA and Audits


• Advise management of concerns and probable causes


• Investigate problems, and work with sanitation and compliance to bring systems under control


• Principles of HACCP


• Understanding of food borne pathogens and how to control them


• Ability to analyze complex processes


• Safe food handling practices


• High indicator organism count, I must assist finding the root cause 


• Prevent organism growth through working with sanitation and maintenance for all new equipment


• Prioritize micro lab work to get finished goods results out in a timely fashion


• Assist in the decision making of finished products, that may need to be destroyed


• Decisions are known everyday by product by product on hold or release


• Supervisor review work daily


• 90 % of time spent internally 10% with outside people


 


• Most of my time is spent keeping us in compliance with the various food safety testing protocols that have been set. I also spend time researching new equipment and methods.


 


Physical Demands:


• Lifting, bending, walking, hand movements, coordination, reaching, etc.


Qualifications:


• 2-year degree preferred in Microbiology


• Understanding of food manufacturing GMP’s


• Proficient in Microsoft Office applications


• Excellent communication and documentation skills


• Exceptional organizational and time management skills


• Strong Micro training in food microorganisms


 


AOAC Testing Proficiency


 


• Experience with SAP
