**Transmission Support Engineer/Technician**

**Fault Data/DME Field Support**

This posting serves to fill one Engineer/Technician position within the TM&S

(Transmission Maintenance and Support) Organization at Georgia Power Company.

Available Positions:

Protection & Control Field Test Engineer or Technician – Fault Data/DME Support


This position will be based from the applicant’s home region, however, candidates

should be willing to travel to work anywhere within the state on an as-needed basis.


This job posting is for a Test Engineer/Technician - Fault Data/DME Support position in the

Georgia Power Transmission Maintenance and Support organization. Reporting location will

be closest GPC Transmission Maintenance Center to home location. The successful candidate

will provide field maintenance, project assistance and commissioning functions across the

Georgia Power Company territory.

The successful Test Engineer/Technician – Fault Data/DME Support candidate will be

responsible for completing associated duties under minimal supervision, and will follow

prescribed procedures to support the maintenance of the Fault Data/DFR/DME systems installed

throughout the Georgia Power Territory.

These positions may be filled at a grade level commensurate with the successful candidate’s

Become knowledgeable of the processes used at Georgia Power in the planning of

capital projects, upgrades, operation, installation, and maintenance of Digital Fault Recorders.

Become knowledgeable of the functions and activities of the various internal departments

that are involved in the design, construction, and maintenance of Disturbance Monitoring

Equipment (DME).

Become knowledgeable of the Protection & Control Field Services work practices and


Become proficient in the use of all software applications used in the operation and programming

of each of the types of DMEs.

Support the development of DME standard designs and criteria for use on the Southern

Company transmission system.

Support construction and maintenance teams during day-to-day operations as well

as in emergency restoration of failed equipment.

Serve as a damage assessment team member after major storms after receiving

the company-provided training. This will require overnight travel within the

Southern Company system.

**_Primary responsibilities for the position are as follows:_**

**_Fault Data/DME Field Support Engineer or Technician_**

+ Provide direct support, maintenance, oversight, and technical assistance/expertise on

the operation of the DME system applications within the Georgia Power operational territory.

+ Provide Quality Assurance reviews on any Project design and job construction

package and assist in DME material selection.

+ Perform site visits for projects, including pre-construction meetings, support during

construction, and commissioning.

+ Coordinate activities and communicate with other project stakeholders and

departments associated with DME specific projects.

+ Become knowledgeable of the TEAMS project application.

+ Monitor and Manage the annual assigned Fault Data/DME Budget.



+ Bachelor’s degree in Engineering from an ABET accredited program/institution is

recommended. Civil, Electrical or Mechanical engineering degree preferred.

+ An Associated degree in Electronics from an accredited institution will be accepted with

previous field experience


+ Previous Fault Data/DFR/DME experience is preferred

+ Maintenance, construction, or project management experience in the utility industry required

+ At least 7 years of Network Transmission, Transmission Relay commissioning-testing and/or

protection and controls experience.

**_Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:_**

+ Knowledge of overall transmission substation design, construction, and maintenance

practices, with specific expertise in substation test preferred

+ Technical aptitude to solve substation engineering problems related

to control, design, and construction of transmission protection equipment.

+ Technical ability to read and interpret electrical diagrams and schematics

+ Ability to apply DFR/DME specific criteria to control design and construction.

+ Computer skills to be proficient with standard office software applications and to adapt

quickly to DME application software. Previous experience with Windows and Linux

is a plus.

+ Interpersonal skills sufficient to build working relationships with peers, internal customers,

and other field personnel.

+ Time management skills sufficient to manage multiple projects with various priorities and

competing deadlines.

+ Written and verbal communication skills sufficient to satisfactorily complete project

documentation and to function effectively in a team environment.
