Job Description
**JOB SUMMARY**
Responsible for managing activities of hourly employees. Lead teams and utilize available resources such as manpower and equipment to move freight in the safest and most cost-effective manner to meet or exceed customer expectations and to achieve Distribution Center/Terminal and company goals. Act as a key resource for management to independently handle complex, unique, and time-sensitive work issues.
**ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES**
1. Responsible for all essential duties and responsibilities of the Supervisor role.
2. Manage, assign, and supervise hourly employees to ensure proper utilization of employees, equipment, loading and unloading while meeting company and customer expectations. Acts as key resource for management and to independently handle complex, unique and time-sensitive work issues.
3. Demonstrated ability to cover Shift Operations Manager shift and take ownership for that shift.
4. Provide supervision and coaching by monitoring facility outbound load quality to reduce cargo claims and increase trailer capacity.
5. Train, mentor, and develop new supervisors to ensure meaningful onboarding and to improve employee relations and retention. Maintain adequate staffing levels by following the call out procedures for casuals, percenters, and overtime. Manage all work schedules and time off requests.
6. Promote accident/injury prevention activities to provide a safe and efficient working environment for employees. Act as member of safety counsel and required to perform safety demonstrations.
7. Facilitate development and posting of facility bids.
8. Assist management with scheduling supervisory shifts, coverage, and time off requests.
9. Administer disciplinary progression per contract and local work rules.
10. Ensure compliance with government and company regulations, policies, and procedures.
11. Attend local grievance hearings as needed.

**MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS**
1. High school diploma or GED.
2. One (1) year operations supervisory experience or six (6) months operations supervisory experience plus one (1) year operations experience.
3. Demonstrated organizational, planning and prioritization skills.
4. Effective verbal, written and interpersonal communication skills.
5. Demonstrated leadership capabilities.
6. Must have strong computer skills and be proficient with Microsoft Office products.
7. Must be willing to work extra hours and on any schedule including nights and weekends.
8. Knowledge of company policies, procedures, and applicable collective bargaining agreements.
**PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS**
1. Bachelor’s degree in business, logistics or related field.
2. Prior LTL leadership experience is strongly preferred.
**WORKING CONDITIONS**
Environmental working conditions vary, and employee may encounter vibration, noise, odors, and extremes in temperature and wind as well as exposure to varied weather, varied surfaces, sharp edges, varied lighting and confined and congested areas and occasionally exposure to petroleum-based products such as gasoline, diesel fuel, oil, and grease.
**PHYSICAL DEMANDS**
The position requires the ability to stand, walk, and maintain balance for extensive periods of time. Occasionally sit. Ability to perform repetitive tasks such as typing and keying. Continually speaking and hearing, giving, and receiving directions. Occasional lifting, pushing/pulling, carrying 10 lbs of supplies and materials is required.
