Job Description

To provide exposure to Mountaire's culture as well as specified areas of our operation in which the intern is designated to during their internship. This program is intended to provide learning opportunities by working hands-on with mentors and completing assigned projects. The Procurement Intern will support the development of best-in-class procurement practices, including sourcing strategy development and deployment. The intern will have the opportunity to assist in the management of internal and external partners to maximize total value contribution for a specific spend area and/or category. This is managed in close collaboration with the Purchasing and Sourcing teams. The Intern will also gain insight and experience in Supply Chain Management, Strategic Sourcing, and risk mitigation, while focusing on cost savings and process improvements through data analysis and research. Through collaboration and communication, the Intern will develop recommendations to support business stakeholders. 

Primary Project

  • Will contribute to high-impact meaningful projects that will not only further advance company's mission but allow one to gain real world experience, specifically in relation to Supply Chain Management and Strategic Sourcing

  • Will be exposed to responsibilities in, but not limited to the following: Packaging design/ development/testing, packaging sustainability, change control, contract management, data analyzation, reporting, presenting data/recommendations/reporting, supply chain analysis and risk mitigation, budgeting and forecasting across categories, category management

  • Travel to poultry facilities across the organization to include the processing facilities, hatcheries, and feed mills - dependent by project   

  • Participate in special events including professional development and leadership presentations, social/networking building activities and local community volunteer programs

Duties/Activities Required by Job

  • Complete assigned project identified by department mentor

  • Attend weekly seminar series across different Mountaire facilities                                                        

  • All interns must be available to travel to Delaware during the last week of the program for final presentations (August 5-9, 2024)

  • All interns are required to complete a 10 minute presentation on their project at the conclusion of summer. Presentations will take place in Millsboro, DE at the Administrative Building during the week of August 5-9th

  • All interns must complete a mid-way evaluation (week 5) along with a final evaluation (week 10)

Educations/Experience Requirements

  • Currently obtaining or have obtained an associates or bachelors degree

  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office 

  • Knowledge or working experience in Business and Supply Chain Management - Indirect and direct materials 

  • Completed coursework in business law and procurement practices preferred    

  • Ability to identify opportunities to increase accuracy, optimize resources and develop and  recommend solutions   

  • Able to drive valuable insights from data to make recommendations

  • Ability to handle short timelines in a fast-paced environment                                                           

  • Ability to work both independently and collaboratively                                                                    

  • Efficient, detail-oriented w/ great organizational skills                                                                    

  • Must be able to effectively communicate and present ideas
