Scope of Position






The Technical Lead Foundation is responsible for the technical design of the offshore wind turbine generators and offshore substations work for Atlantic Shores’ 1,510 MW Project 1. The Technical Foundation Lead will act as the technical lead for the engineering and design activities of the Foundations package of the project, from the detailed engineering to the fabrication and installation of the project.









Responsibilities






Technology Leadership

  • Steward technical definition and quality of contractor’s design methodology and basis development; analysis result accuracy; and reporting clarity and completeness
  • Maintain and continuously improve design basis, Employer Requirements, and data sets
  • Analyze technical offers and carry out the technical clarifications allowing the award of the contract(s)
  • Ensure technology innovation screening, assessment, and surveillance is incorporated into team initiatives; Coordinate team assessment of innovations proposed by market and support Foundations Manager(s) with building business case for JV support of innovation advancement 
  • Leverage technical and project experience to support risk identification (Opportunities & Threats) and assessment reviews
  • Prepare and negotiate all the clauses and technical annexes of the contracts until signature by integrating the various project constraints (HSSE, planning, cost, construction site, O&M strategy) and by accompanying Foundation Manager(s) and Commercial Lead(s) in the phases of commercial negotiations when technical support is necessary
  • Provide occasional support and visit to fabrication sites or offshore installation vessels during installation and commissioning phases
  • Participate in the resolution of defects found and problems with the fabrication, installation, and commissioning of the works or during the warranty phases
  • Identify areas where expert knowledge and peer reviews are necessary and coordinate the sharing of specific and succinct information relevant to the area of review
  • Ensure compliance with internal quality standards for project execution
  • Support mentoring of technical team members to facilitate growth into roles of higher responsibility of future ASOW Projects.

Foundations Engineering

  • Provide design guidance and technical due diligence of the foundation detailed design engineering. Includes guidance inputs for the foundation design and integrated load assessment with turbine supplier
  • Ensure structural, mechanical and electrical design activities by design contractor are robustly assessed and result in a comprehensive design package for regulatory approval and Approved for Construction (AFC) issuance to substructure component suppliers.
  • Ensure that quality processes are controlled and respected (technical changes, non-conformities, design reviews, requests)
  • Proactively participate in risk management through identification and assessment of risks and associated mitigation strategies
  • Ensure designs meet all JV HSE requirements

Interface Activities

  • Manage technical interface with other Technical Disciplines (i.e. WTG, IAC, Installation, Ports, Electrical) as well as development and commercial teams to ensure information and resource needs are met
  • Support the identification and definition of interface responsibility matrix across anticipate contractor scope boundaries

Qualifications






Education/Experience

  • 10yrs+ experience in Civil / Structural Engineering or Marine Engineering on offshore or wind projects. 
  • Experience with time domain analysis methodology and software used in the integrated load assessment (ILA) between turbine OEM and Foundation Designer.
  • Knowledge of wind foundation engineering and design methods and means of fabrication and installation offshore (standards, design, HSSE, certification) an asset.
  • B.Sc degree or higher in Mechanical, Civil Engineering, Naval Architecture or similar. Professional engineering license preferred

Pay Range: $126,600 to $211,000 annually

 

Physical Requirements:

Ability to travel every other month to a separate Atlantic Shores or parent office for 3-5 days at a time. Travel to fabrication sites, installation vessels and vendor offices.
