Summary

This role is responsible for removing blemishes and/or foreign material from raw product and inspection table before raw product is sent to the process line.

Key Responsibilities


  • Required to remove major defects from raw product that are 3/16 of an inch or larger at a rate of 25 potatoes per minute.

  • Required to demonstrate correct trimming, halving, and inspection techniques of raw product at all times.

  • Must be able to identify the different types of defects found on the trim table. These include but are not limited to: green, net, hollow heart, black rot, heat, bruise, scab, sugar ends, nematode, and wireworm.

  • Must be able to recognize and remove all foreign material. Foreign material is defined as anything that is not a potato, such as rocks, weeds, vines, etc.

  • Must sanitize gloves and aprons upon returning to the trim table or inspection areas.

  • equired to notify Trim Coordinator or Team Leader of any unsafe or unsanitaryconditions or machinery malfunction in the trim area.

  • Must be able to communicate with Trim Coordinator or Team Leader of raw product changes, foreign material, machinery malfunctions and all other communication that is pertinent to the overall safety, food safety and smooth operation of the trim area.

  • Must perform all duties assigned by Trim Coordinator, Team Leader or Supervisor.

  • Ensures no injury to self or other by following safe work practices and policies.

  • Ensures self-compliance with Company policies and procedures and Union Labor Agreement.

  • Ensures the interface with team members and other support groups is conducted in a participative management style conducive with operational and Divisional standards.

  • Ensures attendance and participation in training activities appropriate to the position and to incorporate acquired skills and knowledge.

  • Ensures that additional accountabilities as may be required by management be handled in a manner necessary to perform the job function while representing the Company.

  • Conducts oneself in a professional manner and ensures personal appearance meets the standards necessary to perform the job function and while representing the Company.


Typical Education

High School Diploma/GED.


Other Information

Skills: Must have hand/eye coordination, and manual dexterity in both hands.

Abilities: Must be able to read, understand, and communicate in a manner to successfully perform the job duties. Must be able to distinguish between colors. Must have ability to use sharp trim and halving knives in a safe and proper manner. Must be able to follow verbal instructions. Must have the ability to work around such environmental conditions as slick floors, hot and cold water, and humid and wet areas. Must be able to lift up to 39 pounds while stripping product. Ability to climb stairs.
