Job Description:

The Vice President for Finance (VPF) serves as the senior financial executive of the state’s flagship institution of higher education, the Louisiana State University campus. The VPF is responsible for the development of LSU’s financial management strategy and contributes to the development of the organization’s strategic goals. The VPF reports directly to the Executive Vice President and Chief Administrative Officer and serves as chief advisor to the EVPCAO on fiscal matters.


  • Direct oversight of the budgeting, financing, and capital outlay projects for the state-wide operations of LSU. Direct the finance division on the LSU flagship campus which includes the offices of Budgeting & Planning, Accounting Services (Payroll, Accounts Payable & Travel, Financial Accounting and Reporting, Bursar Operations, and Sponsored Program Accounting), Risk Management, Auxiliary Services, and Procurement Services & Property Management. The key functions include capital outlay preparation and submission, investment policy, and budget preparation.
  • Ensures compliance with federal, state, local and organizational laws, regulations, guidelines and best practices.
  • Drafts and implements polices and best practices to support achievement of institutional goals and objectives.
  • Gathers financial data for analysis and forecasting. Advises EVPCAO and other key members of senior management on financial planning, budgeting, cash flow, investment priorities, and policy matters.

Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree from an accredited university in an appropriate discipline such as accounting, finance, or business or a closely related discipline
  • Ten years of progressively complex and relevant leadership experience in higher education, preferably in a research university
  • Skill in financial planning and fiscal management
  • An understanding of and appreciation for a work environment that values collaborative management and collegiality
  • Commitment to faculty, staff, and student diversity
  • Strong analytical and verbal/written communication skills
  • Ability to inspire trust and loyalty among colleagues, faculty, staff, and students

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Certified Public Accountant in good standing
  • Experience in higher education or not-for-profit environment
