Job Description:

LSU's Small Animal ICU operates on a 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, 365 days a year basis. Our state-of-the-art facilities have a 52 patient capacity with a constant coverage for the animals receiving treatment. The small animal intensive care unit also serves as an anesthesia and surgery recovery area as well as a triaging center for small animal emergencies seen at the Veterinary Teaching Hospital.

70% - Examine, diagnose, and prescribe treatments for hospitalized small animal patients in the small animal intensive care unit. Communicate with pet owners with updates, estimates, and other matters related to patient care.

10% - Emergency Service: Triaging presenting emergencies and provide assessment and emergency stabilization in tandem with the other emergency clinician of patients presenting to the emergency service.

10% - Assist VTH services with management of cases by providing treatment updates and other communications regarding inpatients that may be ongoing patients of that service, or transferred to their care the next business day.

5% - Provide general instruction to ACS level 1, 2, and 3 technicians, 3rd and 4th year veterinary students, veterinary interns, technician interns by tutorial and example on emergency stabilization and triage.

5% - Other related duties as they pertain to the operation of ICU.

Minimum Qualifications:

DVM and 2 years of experience.

Specific experience: 2 years of experience in emergency medicine.

Preferred Qualifications:

DVM and 3+ years of experience.

Specific experience: 3 or more years of experience in emergency medicine.

preferred certifications/licenses: Louisiana DVM Licensure

Special or Physical Qualifications:

Emergency response personnel - These personnel are linked with the hospital during any emergency response event and are expected to report in and perform as outlined in the emergency response plan.
Physical Requirements-Required to be cable of lifting up to 50 pounds, standing or walking for prolonged periods, vision near sight, vision far sight, able to reach above and below the shoulder, climbing, crawling, pushing, pulling, grasping, bending, squatting, and/or twisting.
Essential Personnel - This position may be required to report to campus in time of emergency and/or closure per PS-18

This position will provide coverage for the Veterinary Teaching Hospital as needed at an employment effort not to exceed an average of 29 hours per week.
