Job Description

Our long-term client relationship with Jacobs has led to a need for a Space Environments Specialist on the JSC Engineering, Technology, and Science (JETS) contract at Johnson Space Center (Houston, TX). JETS provides products and technical services related to human operations in space through development and integration of a broad spectrum of engineering requirements. This includes human spacecraft flight and flight development products, human exploration mission planning for NASA, institution support services, and new technology development. Barrios Technology Ltd. is a woman-owned and operated small business headquartered in Houston, Texas. We provide a full spectrum of engineering, operations and related technology services in support of the aerospace community and have successfully supported NASA for over 36 years. Barrios Technology presently works as the prime contractor for the Mission and Program Integration (MAPI) contract along with four subcontractor companies to provide support to International Space Station activities at NASA’s Johnson Space Center (Houston, TX). (SGT)/ KBRwyle on the Integrated Mission Operations Contract II (IMOC II) contract at JSC + KBRwyle on the Fully Integrated Lifecycle Mission Support Services (FILMSS) contract at Ames Research Center The Space Environments Specialist will: + Provide support to the Gateway and Lunar Lander Programs in the definition of natural space environments as well as the effects of induced space environments. + Provide support in space environments for the International Space Station Program and the Orion Program. + Be knowledgeable of the natural space environment at low Earth orbit, geostationary orbit, and cis-lunar orbits, including the understanding of radiation, micrometeoroid, solar irradiance, plasma, and gravity models and definitions. + Provide systems engineering support to human spaceflight programs, notably the Gateway Program, by working in concert with NASA civil servants and designated contractors to accurately define and determine the natural space environments for the mission element, to assure space environments requirements are met, and to evaluate induced environments between elements or vehicles. + Perform all other assigned duties. Required Education/Experience/Skills: This position is posted at multiple levels. Depending on the candidate’s experience, position requirements and business needs, we reserve the right to consider candidates at any level for which this position has been advertised. + BS degree in Physics, Astrophysics, Geophysics, Chemistry or Aerospace engineering from an accredited science school and a minimum of fourteen (14) years direct scientific experience, or a MS degree from an accredited science school and twelve (12) years of direct scientific experience, or Ph.D. and nine (9) years direct scientific experience. - OR – + BS degree in Physics, Astrophysics, Geophysics, Chemistry or Aerospace engineering from an accredited science school and a minimum of fifteen (15) years direct scientific experience, or a MS degree from an accredited science school and thirteen (13) years of direct scientific experience, or Ph.D. and nine (9) years direct scientific experience. Membership (or equivalent recognition) on an external, technical society committee/board. + Familiarity with desktop software applications, MS Office is required. + Must have excellent oral and written communication skills. Preferences: + A highly desirable experience of the job applicant is prior experience with space environments as well as working on a NASA project. Essential Requirements + Must be a U.S. Citizen and successfully complete a U.S. government background investigation. + Applicant selected may be subject to government security investigation and must meet eligibility requirements for access to classified information. + Work may involve sitting for extended periods. + May require lifting and carrying up to 25 lb. + Must have sufficient mobility to enter areas of test facilities where necessary. + Generally an office environment, but can involve inside or outside work depending on task. + Standard office equipment (PC, telephone, fax, etc.) + Regular attendance in accordance with established work schedule is critical. + Ability to work outside normal schedule and adjust schedule to meet peak periods and surge requirements when required. + Must be able to work in a team atmosphere. + Must put forward a professional behavior that enhances productivity and promotes teamwork and cooperation. + Grooming and dress must be appropriate for the position and must not impose a safety risk/hazard to the employee or others. + This position may require some commuting and traveling to other installations as needed.
