Job Description

M&F Talent is working with a lawn & garden product manufacturer & distributor who is looking for an experienced Agronomist. Our client is well-established in the horticulture space and offers a variety of products and solutions for CEA growers.

Products include fertilizers, nutrients, and soil mixes. Most notably of these is cultivation media, where they have developed several award-winning products.

The Agronomist will be responsible for studying the product line as it relates to specific cultivation scenarios, and will use this product knowledge to work with customers in resolving issues related to the product line.

Location: Toronto, ON (Canada)

Responsibilities:

  • Measure, collect, and analyze plant material and propagation substrates in a lab setting
  • Design and enforce agronomic laboratory protocols
  • Demonstrate a clear understanding of greenhouse propagation methods used for common horticultural crops, and work with growers to address problems and increase yields
  • Work with clients to diagnose plant diseases, identify pests, and discern crop nutritional problems
  • Offer technical customer support for horticultural supplies and cultivation substrates
  • Resolve customer complaints with enthusiasm, focusing on the gathered evidence of different scenarios
  • Design and implement complete greenhouse crop management programs
  • Work to continuously improve processes and products
  • Communicate effectively with different departments including engineering, plant management, and marketing to process and products.

Qualifications:

  • BA Degree in Horticulture, Plant Science, or related field
  • 3 years of experience in Agronomist role or similar
  • 2 years of experience in customer facing role, both over the phone and in person
  • Advanced knowledge in soil science, cultivation mediums, and/or plant nutrients
  • Possesses strong analytical skills and a dedication to scientific method
  • Has a thorough understanding of substrate quality control
  • Experience and capability to discuss complex situation with clients
