POSITION SUMMARY:

The Justice Teams Network (“JTN”) is a new and growing statewide coalition dedicated to the eradication of state violence in California and beyond through organizing, policy and communications. We are seeking an experienced grant writer with a track record of winning grants to help us reach our goal of raising an additional $200K in 2019.

We are seeking a grant writer who shares our political analysis around state violence, who has an awareness of the area within which we work and who is passionate about building just communities where everyone can thrive.

We have a prospect list and many of the documents needed for prospective grants. We are seeking someone who can take the information and prospects we have so far and continue to write grants and complete the process with potential granters, from sending LOI’s to writing grants to following up with granters regarding grant reporting.

This is a short-term contract for 30 hours per month for 4 months, with an hourly rate to be negotiated with said contractor based on going rate and experience.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Draft and submit grants on behalf of the Justice Teams Network
  • Research prospective grants and communicate with Justice Teams Network staff members about fit for the organization regarding said grants
  • Draft and submit LOI’s on behalf of the Justice Teams Network
  • Write and submit approximately one grant per week through the duration of contract
  • Communicate with the granter about reporting responsibilities and share this with Justice Teams Network staff

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:

  • Awareness and analysis in work area on state violence
  • Winning track record of grant writing
  • Experience in fundraising for small non-profit organizations

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:

  • Must have ability to work independently and also as part of a team
  • Ability to communicate effectively with team members and granters
  • Working knowledge of computer programs relevant to grant writing (Microsoft Word, Excel, etc.)

REQUIREMENTS:

  • Must have own computer with which to perform work
  • Must be able to provide 3 references from past employers or clients
  • Must provide 3 examples of proposals they have written with attachments and budgets

PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

The project requires home computer and telephone time and usage, research and writing.

WORK ENVIRONMENT:

The position will work from a home office or from shared office, with occasional meetings with Justice Teams Network staff via phone or in person.
