The Philadelphia Energy Authority (PEA) is an independent municipal authority chartered by City Council and the Mayor in 2010, focused on issues of energy affordability and sustainability for Philadelphia. In early 2016, in partnership with City Council President Darrell Clarke, PEA launched the Philadelphia Energy Campaign, a $1 billion, 10-year investment in energy efficiency and clean energy projects in 4 sectors: City buildings, public schools, low- and moderate-income housing, and small businesses. We believe that energy is an important vehicle for reducing poverty, improving education, strengthening communities and leveraging public investment. Title: Solar Training Fellow Reports to: Laura Rigell, Solar Manager Number of direct reports: 0 Location: 1400 JFK Blvd (City Hall), Room 566, Philadelphia, PA 19107 Open Date: February 6, 2019 Close Date: March 18, 2019. Applications will be accepted on a rolling basis since PEA is seeking to hire immediately. Exempt/Non-Exempt Status: Exempt (Full-Time), grant funded Position Summary: In 2018, PEA was selected for a $1.25 million award from the U.S. Department of Energy to implement Bright Solar Futures, our newly-expanded workforce development program for high school students and Opportunity Youth for jobs in the solar industry. Building on PEA's Find Your Power high school training program, this initiative will dramatically expand the existing curriculum and position Philadelphia to be the first School District in the country with a Career and Technical Education program focused on solar energy. This position is funded through a 3-year U.S. Department of Energy award and will be filled pending final approval of this award (expected imminently). We are seeking a Fellow to assist with administering the Bright Solar Futures initiative. The focus of the position will be to work with the participants and instructors to ensure the students' successful completion of the training and placement into internships and jobs. The Fellow will also be expected to support administration of the award and other elements of the Philadelphia Energy Campaign as assigned. Key Success Factors: Our ideal candidate is dynamic and engaging, with a high level of comfort around young people. Experience in education, workforce development or working with youth is a plus. Because we are a small team, PEA seeks a self-starter with an entrepreneurial mindset, a person who is comfortable with learning new things, who is focused on results rather than tasks, who does what they say they will do and who has a high level of organization and follow through. A commitment to Philadelphia and a passion for energy, sustainability, climate change, and/or poverty, equity and economic development issues are essential. Fellowship Responsibilities: Coordinate the recruitment, selection, and enrollment of trainees, including (but not limited to) the following: Coordinate and staff recruitment events; Prepare promotional materials; Lead other recruitment activities; Schedule and conduct interviews and track applicants; and Oversee the student enrollment process. Attend classes and assist students and instructors with logistical support. Communicate with and between students, instructors and program administrators. Participate in recruitment of employers for intern and job placements. Provide support to employers and interns to increase likelihood of retention. Conduct activities related to grant reporting and tracking outcomes for evaluation. Other responsibilities related to Philadelphia Energy Campaign as assigned. Qualifications: Bachelor's degree (outstanding candidates without a Bachelor's degree will be considered, particularly with equivalent work experience) 1-2 years of relevant work experience Experience working with young adults (preferred) Passion for providing meaningful careers for youth Able to work independently with limited supervision Able to thrive in a
