The NREL Communications & Public Affairs Office has an opening for a Communications Professional III on its Solar communications team. NREL's Communications & Public Affairs Office comprises communications experts in a variety of disciplines focused on raising awareness about the lab. This position resides in the Buildings & Solar Section within the Office’s Science & Technology Communications Group. The position will provide communications strategy and project management with an emphasis on strategic communications, client relations, writing and technical editing, budget management, and team direction. The selected candidate will design and coordinate implementation of communications strategies and products working directly in partnership with NREL leadership, as well as technical and team leads. The selected candidate will lead a small team of communications representatives, project managers, writers and editors, web content specialists, graphic designers, developers, and subcontractors, ensuring on-time and on-budget delivery of high-quality communications products and solutions. . **Basic Qualifications** Bachelor's Degree in communications, marketing, or related and 5 or more years of experience in creating and managing complex communications programs Or Master's Degree in communications, marketing, or related and 3 or more years creating and managing complex communications programs Or, PhD in communications, marketing, or related or equivalent relevant education/experience. Or, JD in communications, marketing, or related or equivalent relevant education/experience. . **Additional Qualifications** The selected candidate must have direct experience and proven abilities in creating and managing complex communications programs, in addition to writing and technical editing. The candidate must show proficiency in strategic communications planning and execution, project management, developing and managing annual operating plans, project agreements, budgets, communication standards, and the ability to maintain good working relationships with clients and team members. The candidate must demonstrate the ability to collaborate with cross-disciplinary web, print, and multimedia project teams to create websites, web applications and tools, and print and multimedia products, as well as with NREL technical team members across multiple departments. The candidate must have advanced understanding and application of project management principles, concepts, practices, and standards, along with knowledge of web enterprise management and print, video, and social media communication standards and disciplines. The candidate must be willing to work in a fast-paced environment and manage multiple projects and deadlines. In addition, the selected candidate must have: + Nimbleness needed to multitask in a fast-paced communications agency setting + Experience translating complex, technical subject matter for general audiences + Understanding of the power of narrative and storytelling through all channels + Excellent writing and editing skills + Excellent interpersonal, conflict resolution, teaming, and communication skills + Excellent client and team management skills as well as demonstrated strategic approaches + Complete understanding and wide application of technical principles, theories and concepts in the field + General knowledge of other related disciplines + Considerable knowledge of laws, regulations, principles, procedures and practices related to specific field + Strong leadership, project management and problem solving skills + Ability to use various computer software programs. **Preferred Qualifications** + Bachelor's degree in English, journalism, communications, or marketing + Experience with existing NREL and DOE programs + Experience with emerging communications and marketing concepts, technologies, and practices is preferred + Experience working with the utility industry and unique stakeholder groups and audience + Familiarity with renewable energy, energy efficiency, grid, and infrastructure technologies + Experience managing budgets of up to $1 million per year. . **Submission Guidelines** Please note that in order to be considered an applicant for any position at NREL you must submit an application form for each position for which you believe you are qualified.
