Job Description

The main goal for the new GM is the effective joint oversight and leadership of the solar and wind project and services teams; such joint responsibilities including: origination, acquisition, greenfield development and management of the critical procurement, construction and financing phase for ongoing projects (including grid connection); oversight of the corporate functions of the business; and the broader strategic development of the Renewable Energy teams' business in order to develop new solar PV and wind projects in Australia as well as establish other businesses where the opportunity arises. 
 
The successful candidate will be one of two Projects Directors in Australia, who jointly drive results from existing and future projects by leading on effective business development activities as well as defining and implementing strategies, business plans and road maps to successfully implement projects in Australia. The main focus in the next three years is on successfully building, financing and selling projects out of the secured pipeline as well as identifying, developing, and acquiring new business contacts with project developers and business partners with the goal of acquiring/developing further solar and wind projects. 
 
Duties:

  • Responsible for further developing the Project teams' presence in Australia, actively identifying and promoting investment opportunities in renewable energy projects.
  • Establishing necessary project strategies, market survey and competition analysis to define attractive new project opportunities.
  • Originating and managing the acquisition, greenfield development and implementation of new projects in Australia (Wind, Solar, Hybrid)
  • Ensure the smooth running of all the support functions, including Finance & Controlling, Legal, Corporate Finance, Marketing and HR, liaising with the regional functional heads to manage local resources to implement global policies and strategies for each respective function.
  • To assist at all times the company achieves its dedicated aim of “Best Practice” and delivering high quality renewable energy projects at the lowest cost of energy.

  
Skills Required:
 
Market Knowledge – you must understand the interrelationships between the company, business partners and competitors as well as regulators/public bodies; and be able to capitalise on this knowledge.
 
Performance – you should be capable of acquiring and successfully implementing solar and wind projects and new service mandates.
 
Stakeholder Management – you must be committed to a transparent communication style, with a stakeholder/customer-oriented approach and a good track record in identifying stakeholder/customer needs.
 
Leadership – you will have a natural entrepreneurial tendency and show a desire to lead. 
 
Collaboration – you will be able to build close partnering relationships with project developers, local authorities, business partners and colleagues.
 
Education – you have had a higher education, preferably a degree in Engineering or business administration, or equivalent experience in real estate development, project management business or electrical engineering. Experiences in the Australian renewable and/or conventional energy markets are a plus.

The candidate should be well acquainted with the steps of wind and solar PV and Wind project acquisition, development and implementation. The candidate should be a “hands on” person with a “roll-up the sleeves and can-do” attitude, comfortable with working towards targets and objectives and with operation in the Australian and ideally international business environment.
