Job Description

Hima Nursery, Inc. is seeking applicants for Assistant Nursery/Assistant Sales Manager position. Candidate must have a degree in Horticulture or 3-year minimum demonstrated experience in plant nursery stock with emphasize on NW Native plants. Position consists of coordinating native wholesale and retail orders, purchasing plant and landscape products for the plant nursery and organic farm, maintenance of organic status and more.

Position Requirements:

  • Degree in Horticulture, Botany, or another related degree
  • MS Office intermediate experience a must
  • Experience in Adobe Illustrator or Photoshop preferred
  • Knowledge in plant identification (specifically PNW natives) and basic care
  • Strong communication, organization skills and time management
  • Self-motivated and flexible
  • Pro-active problem solver with ability to plan ahead

Position responsibilities:

Farm:

  • Maintaining Organic status:
    • Knowledgeable of WSDA organic process
    • Source and purchase untreated seeds and OMRI products
    • Record keeping of seed, chemicals, soil amendments, wood stakes, produce boxes
    • Assisting WSDA organic inspector during yearly inspection
  • Disease and pest control (organic methods)
  • Maintaining a relationship with market produce buyers
  • Communicating the crew at the Farm regularly
  • Source and purchase supplies, fertilizer, animal feed, hay and related products
  • Dispatching delivery drivers to stores, markets, Food Hubs and distributors
  • Maintaining and updating inventory on a regular basis
  • Planning and planting greenhouses and farm

Nursery:

  • Maintaining a quality appearance in the retail area
  • Planning the planting seasons to produce crops that will produce successful sales
    • Source and purchase native seeds for planting
    • Assess nursery stock sales
  • Maintaining relationships with sources as well as buyers
  • Organizing and record keeping of all wholesale and retail orders
  • Dispatching drivers to pick-up and delivery orders
  • Customer service
    • Answering phones
    • Assisting wholesale and retail customers
    • Cashier
  • Create & follow-up on order acknowledgements, invoices and purchase orders
  • Purchasing plants for projects
  • Preparing quotes for customers
  • Respond to correspondence in a timely manner
  • Maintain and update inventory and availability
  • Create and transmit Newsletters to customers via email
  • Accurate record keeping
