The Senior Internal Auditor is accountable to assist the Senior Manager, Internal Audit for ensuring the company maintains strong internal controls and good governance practices, conducts reviews and analyses for Sarbanes-Oxley compliance and internal control purposes and participate in other internal audits activities.
This role works closely with functional business teams across the organization.
+ Identification and documentation of internal controls over financial reporting (ICOFR).
+ Create control testing scripts, complete field work, perform testing procedures, and document effectiveness results.
+ Evaluate the existing procedures and management practices that relates to ICOFR to determine their efficiency and effectiveness.
+ Provide feedback to functional teams to ensure good internal controls are maintained.
+ Assist with managing remediation plans of deficient controls. Serve as a liaison with key business areas to ensure that changes in the business processes are updated in the ICOFR framework.
+ Develop recommendations on enhancement of internal controls.
+ Support external audit team to establish partnership with business.
+ Assist with, follow up and report on external audit recommendations.
+ Other duties that may arise related to Sarbanes-Oxley requirements.
Education & Experience
+ 3 years + of proven experience in SOX through external and/or internal audit
+ Moving towards or has CIA and/or CISA designation, ITGC audit experience is helpful;
+ Professional accounting designation such as CA, ACCA, CMA, CGA or CPA is a must;
+ Solid knowledge of US GAAP is a must;
+ Experience in power and utilities industry is a plus;
+ Solid understanding of internal control frameworks is required (COSO required, COBIT is a plus);
+ Solid knowledge of the risk assessment process is required;
+ Experience documenting and evaluating operational policies and procedures is required.
+ Ability to work independently as well as demonstrate good team-work;
+ Flexibility, ability to travel (Canada and US only);
+ Excellent interpersonal skills (oral, written and presentation) and high level of diplomacy;
+ Advanced Microsoft Office skills (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
