Ameresco's Distributed Energy Resource (DER) team is seeking a Project Development Engineering Manager to coordinate the development through to contract execution of DER projects located nationwide, including combined heat and power (CHP) projects, peak shaving power projects, integrated microgrids, battery energy storage projects, solar generation, biomass projects, and other renewable technology projects. This position is based at the Ameresco corporate headquarters office in Framingham, Massachusetts. Responsibilities Coordinate with Business project development staff to provide the required technical engineering support and/or identify other required internal and external development resources; Detailed review of customer Requests for Proposals (RFPs) and Request for Qualifications (RFQs) to determine required response; Develop scoping document that will identify the goals, organizational chart and roles of team Provide proposal engineering support as required by sales development efforts including conceptual drawing preparation, proposal project schedules, and proposal narratives; Obtain preliminary equipment vendor proposals and installing contractor proposals to conceptually develop the project costs and details; Prepare conceptual design engineering and capital and operating cost estimations as required for project development efforts and input for financial models; Collaborate with project implementation team and operation teams to establish design intent and performance requirements; Develop cost models and performance models using major equipment vendor proposals and contractor estimates; Participate in site customer site walk throughs to verify access and resource requirements for each project. Provide direction and management of consultants for air permit applications and electrical and natural gas interconnect applications or as required for project development; Coordinate and prepare a handoff documentation package at the completion of the development phase to the project execution team. Continue to provide support as required for a smooth transition and successful project; Ensure compliance with company best practices, industry, trade, and jurisdictional safety, standards, practices, codes; Prepare and participate in customer meetings, presentations and interviews; and Perform other duties as required. MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: BSME, BSEE or equivalent four-year technical engineering degree. Minimum 12 years progressive engineering experience in the power generation or industrial area, including facility operations and mechanical installation projects involving co-generation, heating, cooling, mechanical process, and automation technologies. Valid Driver License issued by state of residence and in good standing. Ability to travel required. PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS: MBA or demonstrated project development experience to support the preparation of associated financial models. Current Professional Engineer (PE) registration. Experience with utility rate structures and tariffs and utility rate base and utility generation resource requirements and planning. Past project management/engineering experience with ability to perform preliminary cost estimating at project concept stage of development. Demonstrated experience in the direct management of engineering resources for a project development process. Experience overseeing design, estimating and construction of CHP, Solar and BESS systems. Excellent organization skills including ability to effectively manage multiple priorities. Strong verbal, written, computer communication and technical presentation skills. Ability to work as part of a team and act quickly with minimal supervision. Proven ability to manage and complete complex projects in a timely, cost-effective manner.
