Reporting to the Field Service Supervisor, the Field Service Technician is responsible for assisting in the performance of wind turbine mechanical, hydraulic, and electric component maintenance across an assigned region in the Clearway wind and solar fleet. This includes traveling to sites throughout the Texas, Oklahoma, New Mexico, and Nebraska to assist new or existing wind farms.
All Field Service Technicians must live within one hour of a Clearway wind or solar site in Texas. These cities includes: Big Spring, Christoval, Fort Stockton, San Angelo, Sterling City, Sweetwater or Vega.
+ Follow safety procedures, observe safe working practices and maintain a safe working environment.
+ Travel 75-100% of the time throughout Texas, Oklahoma, New Mexico, and Nebraska.
+ Assist with the development and start-up of new sites and new products along with the requisite development of new or improved processes and procedures.
+ Assist in completing Minor and Major component exchanges across multiple platform types.
+ Provide support to regional wind plants for all areas of site operations including maintenance, troubleshooting, etc.
+ Perform preventative inspections at various plant locations using video borescope equipment.
+ Lead or assist in oil changing activities on multiple OEM platforms.
+ Troubleshoot complicated mechanical, hydraulic, and electrical problems on variable pitch, variable speed wind turbines.
+ Operate and maintain a service vehicle.
+ Read and understand electrical schematics and wiring diagrams.
+ Maintain hand tools in good working order and well organized.
+ Work a flexible schedule when needed. This may include weeknights, weekends, and holidays.
Knowledge & Skills
+ Ability to travel, including overnight, 75-100% of the time.
+ Ability to read, understand, and follow procedures and checklists with little to no supervision.
+ Have an in depth understanding of the different components of the wind turbine including the electrical pitch system, computerized control system. and the power conversion unit as well as knowledge and understanding of OEM approved mechanical maintenance methods and practices.
+ Possess demonstrable mechanical aptitude and basic electrical knowledge.
+ Ability to read schematics and wiring diagrams is preferred.
+ Able to communicate verbally and in writing and able to work without direct supervision during performance of work.
+ Able to create, edit or modify Microsoft Word and Excel documents.
Experience & Education
+ A high school diploma or GED is required.
+ An A.S. degree (electrical or technical) is preferred.
+ Minimum of 2 years of experience as a wind turbine technician preforming routine maintenance and troubleshooting.
+ Possess at least one year of independent turbine troubleshooting experience and be able to troubleshoot turbines without assistance.
+ Experience with Minor and Major component exchanges highly preferred.
+ Crane and Rigging experience preferred.
+ Able to meet requirements of Clearway’s Qualified Electrical Worker program.
+ Must possess a valid driver's license and good driving record, with the ability to obtain a CDL, based on the needs and requirements of the company.
