In 2007, Sunrun co-Founders Ed Fenster and Lynn Jurich set out to make home solar mainstream. Upfront cost was a huge barrier to home solar adoption, so they invented the model now known as "Solar as a Service." Sunrun allows homeowners to pay for solar power, not the panels. This means Sunrun owns, maintains, and monitors the system while homeowners pay for the electricity it produces. Each business day, we install $2 million worth of solar and facilitate one solar installation every 10 minutes. Our network of more than 30 leading solar installers employs more than 4,600 people. The RoleThe Vice President of Tax will manage all aspects of Sunrun’s tax accounting; federal, state, local, and partnership tax compliance; and income tax projects. This role will interact with senior finance leaders of the organization and be the liaison with multiple levels of management and staff to coordinate the flow of information between various functions. This position will also while also provide leadership, guidance and assistance for tax-related issues for the company. This hands-on role will report directly to the CFO. Responsibilities + Lead and develop a team of high performing tax professionals, driving organizational design, personal development plans, and comprehensive performance management + Be a participating member of the finance leadership team to establish and implement the company's short and long-term tax strategies and work closely with our external tax advisors + Lead tax provision and ASC 740 accounting cycle, including footnotes, tax disclosures and tax reserves under FIN 48 and FAS 5 + Manage completion and review of tax compliance concerning federal, state, & local operations, tax credits, and tax compliance memos + Lead all transaction taxes including US sales and use tax and corresponding compliance + Be responsible for and serve as primary contact for all property tax functions for assets and operations across the U.S. + Perform technical tax research and tax planning efforts to optimize the company's tax position + Provide forecasts and guidance regarding future effective tax rates and cash taxes + Support tax related issues for new product and service offerings + Engage in M&A and all non-standard related activities requiring tax expertise + Ensure appropriate internal controls related to tax matters are in place and operating correctly Qualifications + Bachelor’s degree with 10+ years of relevant tax experience, including in public accounting and a publicly listed company + Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal, to convey complex matters with simplicity and clarity to non-experts across the company + Track record of building and developing high performing teams + CPA preferred + Expert knowledge of US GAAP tax accounting and financial statement disclosures for taxes + A proven ability to research and communicate complex technical tax issues clearly to non-tax team members and work effectively across functional teams and senior leadership + A proven ability to research and communicate complex technical tax issues clearly to non-tax team members and work effectively across functional teams and senior leadership + Strong knowledge of state and local corporate income tax as well as sales/use and property tax + Must have a demonstrated hands-on approach and success in working in a team-based environment Solar Careers For All Sunrun is proud to be an equal opportunity employer that does not tolerate discrimination and harassment of any kind.
