Job Description

The Global Green Growth Institute internship program (also called "Grow Green" Program) provides a unique learning opportunity for students and recent graduates from diverse academic backgrounds. The program is designed for talented and motivated individuals skilled in areas relevant to GGGI’s operations. The program allows selected candidates to gain insight into the work of GGGI and provides assistance and training in various professional fields in a multicultural environment. Current Opportunity

Started in 2017, GGGI Lao country office has been supporting the Government of Lao PDR to develop the National Green Growth Strategy (NGGS), which provides policy direction on the mainstreaming of green growth into national, sub-national, sectoral strategies and policies. In addition, GGGI Laos country office is also supporting Lao Government with on-going projects and activities, namely, through Green Climate Fund (GCF) Readiness projects, development of technical standards for the deployment of Electric Vehicles in Lao PDR, development of Green Cities action plan, and Wastewater and Solid Waste Treatment project funded by KOICA, etc. Moreover, on the climate mainstreaming, GGGI Laos is also assisting the Government of Lao PDR on its 2020 Nationally Determined Contribution (NDC) revisions to be submitted to UNFCCC. The programme has been wide-extended its cooperation with key stakeholders leading the development of green growth in Lao PDR, including, Ministry of Natural Resources and Environment, Ministry of Planning and Investments, Ministry of Public Works and Transport, Vientiane City Office for Management and Service (VCOMS), Ministry of Industry and Commerce, Ministry of Energy and Mines, and other development partners.  

Therefore, we are looking for a talented individual (a Lao National) to work with us in the GGGI Laos country office based in Vientiane. The individual will assist the Lao country programme on communications and technical supports to increase GGGI Lao country programme’s visibility, including: (1) Development of high quality communication materials in English and Lao, (2) Management of GGGI’s online/social media accounts, (3) Coordination of medias engagement for programme activities, and (4) Build and sustain relationship with key stakeholders. 

The intern will work under the supervision the supervision of the Country Representative and project managers to provide communication and technical support for the GGGI Lao country programme as well as other assignments where needed.

Assignment

The assignment will include the followings but not limited to:

  • Develop/coordinate communication materials for the Lao team, including, banners, images, infographics, videos, etc.;
  • Develop media postcards for events, workshops, and conferences;
  • Support project managers on drafting event write-up and press release related to Lao country programme activities;
  • Support project managers on technical matters, including but not limited to green investment project preparation, policy advisory and knowledge development;
  • Develop annual communication plans including online campaigns, events and/or activities for remarkable days to increase the visibility of GGGI Laos , for instance, the World and National Environment Day;
  • Support on conducting survey and video interviews related to programme activities;
  • Manage GGGI online/social media platforms, namely, Yammer, Facebook, Instagram, Tweeter, etc. to build a community among GGGI’s partners and employees as well as monitor of public relations;
  • Support on coordination/engagement of key stakeholders to sustain the cooperation with GGGI.  

 

Eligibility

To be eligible for an internship, candidates must:

  • Be enrolled in a Bachelor’s (final year), Master’s or PhD program prior to internship assignment, or a recent graduate within the last 12 months.
  • Be engaged or recently engaged in academic study in a field directly related to the Institute’s work
  • Possess an excellent command of English.

 

Qualification

  • A Lao national;
  • Bachelor’s degree in environmental and/or urban studies, communications management, journalism and mass communications, public relations, and other relevant fields;
  • Prior experience in similar assignments with track records is a strong asset;
  • Ability to demonstrate communication and stakeholder engagement skills. Graphic design skills would be a serious advantage;
  • Proficiency in using software programs, namely, Microsoft office programs, Photoshop, Adobe Illustrator, Lightroom, Premier Pro or similar programs will be an advantage;
  • Strong English skills both written and verbal are required;
  • Professional skills in the use of camera, image and video editing are preferable;
  • Good understanding of structure and functioning of an international organization as well as Lao context is highly desirable;
  • Competent to work independently and take initiatives in response to the organization and team’s demand;
  • Demonstrate excellent interpersonal and professional skills in interacting with colleagues and stakeholders;
  • Strong creative skills.
