NOV Rig Technologies New Product Development -Alt Energy is recruiting for a Senior Product Development Engineer to join our team at the NOV Tower on Richmond Avenue in Houston, Texas. We are looking for highly motivated Senior Mechanical or Mechatronics Engineer with a strong track record in product development/prototyping. The candidate should contribute to and be part of a team whose main objective will be to conceptualize and develop new systems relating to NOV’s alternative energy and next generation rig technology group. The successful candidate will work as part of a multi-disciplined team to develop new, creative solutions to the problems of our internal and external customers. Through mechanical and controls development, the team’s goal is to create viable concepts that can spark development within the group and throughout the organization for a variety of products including: wind, geothermal and solar power generation as well as NOV’s more “traditional” product suite including pipe handling and drilling systems.
This role will be a technically challenging one in a dynamic environment. + Ability to lead members of the engineering team to successfully launch and complete projects.
+ Conceptualize and develop solutions for a given project in the alternative energy or rig technology field.
+ Provide engineering support on existing projects and prototyping work.
+ Generate test plans and procedures for assigned projects.
+ Perform preliminary and / or detailed stress analysis and calculations to determine viability of designs per ASME, AISI, and other relevant standards.
+ Document development path on projects to capture the thought process that goes into projects.
+ Research and specify procured items.
+ Create part models / layouts as necessary for creation of prototype parts and assemblies.
+ Generate engineering reports documenting the successes and failures of assigned projects.
+ The candidate will build and test their own designs, as well as assist with other team-members.
Education & Experience:
+ BSME degree or other advanced engineering degree, or equivalent experience.
+ 5 years of design experience.
+ Excellent technical communication skills including proficiency with Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
+ Excellent written as well as verbal communication and interpersonal skills.
+ Knowledge of Engineering standards and procedures.
+ Self-directed and highly motivated with the ability to work under minimal supervision.
+ Can work equally well individually as well as in a scrum setting.
+ Natural organization skills.
+ CAD proficiency is required: Creo or Solidworks.
+ Hands on approach to problem solving.
Preferred Job Skills:
+ Proficiency with machine design.
+ Thermodynamic and fluids system design experience.
+ Experience with 3d printers and other methods of prototyping.
+ Hands on approach to design / build.
Physical Requirements / Working Conditions:
While this position is primarily based in a professional
office/workshop environment, travel will periodically be required to vendor
facilities, commissioning yards, and to outdoor customer facilities as an essential
part of the job.
