M&F Talent has a client in CEA crop production that is looking to onboard a new Head Grower. The position will focus on the commercial production of leafy greens and herbs in hydroponics systems. Our client is passionate about sustainable development as well as the creation of more nutritious food sources Moreover, they are on the cutting-edge of greenhouse cultivation techniques and have plans for exponential growth in the coming years.

 Our client is looking for a passionate and dedicated Head Grower to compliment their already growing team. This key position is responsible for all growing operations including water chemistry, food safety, biologicals, and growth strategies.

 Location: Grand Rapids, MI

 Responsibilities:

  • Report directly to the Chief Operating Officer.
  • Collaborate with the extended team to improve and enhance system performance.
  • Manage the grow plan for indoor crop production.
  • Oversee product quality and order fulfillment.
  • Manage hydroponics cultivation procedures and nutrient protocols.
  • Teach cultivation team the importance of accurate feeding and PH monitoring.
  • Keep accurate records of garden data / performance to present to upper management.
  • Follow, as well as enforce, strict standards related to the grow operations and crop quality.
  • Delegate appropriate tasks related to planting, cloning, harvest.
  • Train staff on uses of smart grow technology and CEA equipment.
  • Ensure facilities department keeps accurate records on cultivation equipment.
  • Monitor and report KPI throughout the business year.

 Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Plant Science, Horticulture or Related Field.
  • 5-10 years’ experience in management role in commercial greenhouse production.
  • Understanding of all aspects of CEA crop production and growing.
  • Management experience with direct reports.
  • Expert understanding of hydroponics equipment and systems.
  • Working expertise with horticultural lighting, smart grow tech, and commercial fertigation.
  • Experience with climate control software platforms.
  • Knowledge of Microsoft Office.
  • Available to work weekends and work flexible hours as required.
  • Commercial production experience in hydroponics.
  • Commercial production experience in leafy greens and herbs.
  • Superior problem-solving and analytical skills.
  • Extremely well organized.
  • Excellent verbal, written, and interpersonal skills.
  • Experience with business intelligence systems.
