Oceans of Energy is a young company which focuses on the development of floating systems at sea for renewable energy generation. We offer access to a unique source of clean energy to islands and coastal regions, without competition for scarce land and with cost reductions compared to conventional energy sources. As our first projects at sea are being realized this year, we need to strengthen our environmental team. The Marine Biologist intern plays a key role in identifying and setting up pilot projects all around the world to demonstrate the suitability of Oceans of Energy’s offshore floating solar technology to the purpose of ecological restoration. Specifically to assist – in the form of active physical restoration- the natural recovery processes of coral ecosystems or other carbonate organisms by using a technique called mineral accretion. Responsibilities can include: Design (with engineers) an optimal synergetic function between our floating platform concept and the mineral accretion principle Set up and hands-on building of small field test (in The Netherlands) to check design Establish contacts and partnerships to initiate demo-projects worldwide Assist in the writing of grants; white paper(s) Design environmental monitoring program around pilot projects Qualifications and Qualities: Master’s degree, preferably in Tropical Marine Biology/Ecology or related discipline 1-5 years/seasons of experience in setting-up and executing fieldwork abroad, preferably related to coral restoration Knowledge of marine aquafarming, micro-fragmentation, marine resource management a plus Hands-on and tech-savvy Startup mentality: enthusiastic, independent, and getting things done with simple means Good communicator Self-directed and quick learner Excellent English language skills and affinity with writing Important to note that we can only take STUDENTS (currently enrolled in a program) and also only students with a EU visa.
