Our mission at BURN Design Lab is to save lives and forests in the developing world through the design and dissemination of clean burning cookstoves.  Our sister organization, BURN Manufacturing intends to build a factory in East Africa that will manufacture over 3 million stoves in the next ten years alone.  We are currently seeking an Industrial Design Intern to work with our design and manufacturing team to develop a number of efficient cookstoves that are user-centric, aspirational consumer products.  The position is for 3-6 months at BURN Design Lab on Vashon Island, WA (outside of Seattle).  This is an opportunity to utilize design skills that will change the lives of millions of people in Africa.

 

Start date: February 23rd, 2013 or March 15th, 2013.  BURN Design Lab will provide housing and a stipend.

 

 

 

The position will assist in:

 

  • Develop design concepts
  • Work with the design and manufacturing teams throughout the design process from initial concept to bring the design to production
  • Graphic Representation – will work on both a two-dimensional and a three-dimensional basis on sketches, drawings, renderings and presentations. 
  • Work with external and internal resources to create design prototypes
  • Creation of design data including CAD (SolidWorks) and sketches

Perform other related duties as assigned

Requirements

 

Education, Training, Experience:

 

  • Degree in Industrial Design
  • Computer Knowledge of graphic and CAD Software (SolidWorks), modeling, Adobe Creative Suite,
  • Ability to work as a team member and have the drive to work individually and prioritize
