Description

Much of CSG’s new business acquisition and retention of current business is facilitated through a “Request for Proposals” (RFPs) process utilized by electric and gas utilities across the country.  CSG utilizes a deal team process to develop bid strategy and the proposal response.  The Business Development Director’s primary responsibility is to lead and manage a highly functioning corporate proposal development function that delivers high quality client proposals highlighting CSG’s strength and brand in the market place.  The Business Development Director will be responsible for a broad range of activities including all aspects of proposal preparation, cross-functional bid team coordination, client presentation development support and other activities associated with the RFP bid process. This position will also support CSG’s key client management work, and CSG’s client database. This position reports to and works under the direction of the Executive Vice President of Client Services.

Responsibilities

  • Plan, schedule, and manage deal team work, often virtually, and proposal development activities from pre-proposal planning to final production, delivery, and capture of lessons learned.
  • Direct the proposal operations team; Lead, manage, and mentor a team.
  • Provide direction, leadership and strong project management to various deal teams made up of subject matter experts, pricing specialists, writers, editors, reviewers, graphic artists, coordinators, and subcontractors to ensure high-quality and winning proposals.
  • Apply project management techniques to control scope, cost, and schedule. 
  • Ensure that all client requirements and guidelines for responding to requests for proposals are well understood and adhered to.
  • Produce high-quality content and appearance of the final proposal product and the on-time delivery of the proposal. Ensure that all proposals and necessary documentation are easily understood by a layperson.
  • Organize, standardize, and centralize proposal information and publication materials, improve proposal template(s) and drive overall efficiencies in the proposal production process to improve quality and reduce production costs.
  • Document and communicate to upper management new business opportunities, the current RFP pipeline and RFP results.

Requirements

  • Proven ability to develop winning proposals with strong demonstrated client marketing and presentation skills.
  • 5+ years of managing proposal operations and sales support functions or related experience.
  • Must have ability to manage multiple submission requests, work under tight deadlines with careful attention to detail, and be flexible with work hours.
  • Proven ability to conceptualize, organize, manage, and successfully complete large and complex projects.
  • Professional, calm, and polished management style and demeanor with a leadership style that motivates teams for optimal proposal development execution in a fast paced environment. Works well under pressure.
  • Persistent focus on customer service (internal and external) is required.
  • Execution driven and detail oriented. Excellent interpersonal, organizational, writing, editing, and computer skills are required.
  • Demonstrated ability to partner effectively with internal senior management and project staff, and external resources.
  • Knowledge of the energy efficiency industry and compliance with regulatory requirements strongly preferred.

 

Salary Range: Commensurate with experience
