Strategic Energy Innovations (SEI) is seeking a volunteer intern to support our work with our Marin School of Environmental Leadership Program. This is a part-time, unpaid position, based out of our San Rafael, Marin County Office.  Volunteer applications will be reviewed on a rolling basis, with volunteer position start dates to be negotiated on an individualized basis.  


About SEI

We are a Marin County-based non-profit organization with a 16-year history.  Through funding from federal, state, municipal, private foundations and other clients, SEI supports under-served populations, such as school districts, colleges/universities, local governments, and affordable housing providers and residents, to embrace a sustainable future through green building, clean energy, resource efficiency and related technologies, programs and initiatives.  Our staff works closely within teams to support each other on projects and to creatively develop new and effective models.  For more information about SEI’s programs visit our website at


About MarinSEL

In 2011, SEI launched the Marin School of Environmental Leadership (MarinSEL), a magnet school within Terra Linda High School with support from San Rafael City Schools. This new “school within a school” combines the breadth and diversity of public education with the depth and integrated learning of project-based education.  At MarinSEL, teachers guide students through inquiry-based projects where they apply theories from multiple disciplines to address real world environmental and social issues.  Rigorous academics are united with field-based opportunities and service to community, building leadership skills, as students become stewards of their environment.  The fellow will support the Executive Director and Assistant Project Coordinator in overall management of this innovative program, working with teachers, students, and volunteers to ensure success.   Please see the MarinSEL website at:

Volunteer Needs and Associated Responsibilities



Support Areas

Eco-Smart Education (K-12), the Marin School of Environmental Leadership

Ø  Event planning/management, and fundraising

Ø  Marketing and Communication Material Development

Ø  Multimedia production

Ø  Grant research and writing

Ø  Web Design and update

Ø  Potential for project-based learning support for teachers in and outside the classroom

Ø  General administrative/organizational assistance

Generally, SEI volunteers will posses a basic familiarity with the Internet and the Microsoft suite of office automation software (e.g.: MS Word, Excel, Power Point, etc.)  Qualified candidates will also evidence strong written and verbal communication skills, in addition to the following:

-       Bachelor’s degree (or current student) or equivalent work experience

-       Ability to commit to a minimum of 300 hours over the course of a 6-month period, or a minimum of 150 hours over the course of a 3-month period.  Or let us know your availability.
