POSITION IN THE ORGANIZATION:     Reports to the Vitalis North America Business Manager

PURPOSE OF THE POSITION

 

:                         To develop the Vitalis brand in Northwest US/Canada

Summary of responsibilities:

 

  1. Identify and develop key organic growers in northwest region and assess market size.
  2. Develop and maintain organic sales targets per dealer and per variety for territory.
  3. Develop and execute organic trial plans with key organic growers and dealers. 
  4. Identify new varieties for northwest regional organic growers from existing Vitalis and Enza worldwide product assortments, and provide leadership in key regional crop groups.
  5. Support regional organic seed production.
  6. Contribute to Vitalis promotion through regional tradeshows and conferences and technical marketing material development.
  7. Reporting and Other Duties.

 

 

Brief description of responsibilities and duties:

 

  1. Key organic growers and market assessment in Northwest region
  • Identify key organic vegetable and herb growers in northwest region and assess market size per crop.
  • Develop a system for determining how Vitalis could have the greatest influence with key organic growers with our variety portfolio.
  • Work with Vitalis Business Manager to determine approach per customer.
  • Keeps up-to-date the address files of (prospective) organic growers in Northwest region.
  • Undertakes visits to and maintains contacts with existing and potential organic growers with the aim to promote and sell Vitalis varieties.

 

  1. Develop and maintain organic sales targets per dealer and per variety for territory.
  • Work with key regional dealers on exposure and promotion of Vitalis varieties
  • Develop annual sales targets by crop, variety, by month with each dealer.
  • Responsible for contribution to annual sales target.
  • Execute sales strategy, initiate contact with existing and potential customers, identify their needs and sell appropriate organic varieties to meet those needs.
  • Establish buying influences, budgets, and purchasing criteria for organic accounts.

 

  1. Develop and execute organic trial plans with key organic growers and dealers. 
  • Develop, document and communicate organic vegetable and herb trial plans and organize commercial variety trials in close consultation with all parties involved (Breeders, Crop Specialists and Sales team representatives).
  • Evaluate organic vegetable and herb variety trials with regard to local markets and market conditions and record conclusions through accurate and timely variety data compilation.  
  • Develop and maintain strong working relationships with key organic growers, field representatives, as well as national and/or international Vitalis and Enza colleagues.
  • Reports periodically about the development of the product range within the work area and about the opportunities and threats.

 

  1.  Identify new varieties for northwest regional organic growers from existing Vitalis and Enza worldwide product assortments, and provide leadership in key regional crop groups.
  • Reports periodically about the development of the product range within the work area and about the opportunities and threats.
  • Develop focus on key regional crops such as onions, cauliflower, spinach, and leek.
  • Follows market developments in the field and through professional publications, follows the development of competing varieties and if necessary provides feedback on this to relevant Commercial Team and R&D department members.
  • Keeps abreast of (developments in) the Enza product range as they may apply to the Vitalis portfolio for the northwest region.
  • Facilitate variety development by contributing to the Organic and Herb Product Advancement Team (PAT) decisions on varietal advancement for the Vitalis US/Canada portfolio.

 

  1. Support regional organic seed production.
  • Support organic seed production initiatives in radish, spinach and culinary herb production.

 

  1. Contribute to Vitalis promotion through regional tradeshows and conferences and technical marketing material development.
  • Attend strategic organic and agricultural tradeshows representing Vitalis in the northwest region.
  • Organize and/or participate in field days and related events, specifically all regional organic conferences, trade shows, extension related activities.
  • Contribute to the development of promotional literature by writing detailed, technical variety descriptions specifically for organic cultivation.
  • Maintains relations with representatives of organic farms, grower associations, and the organic movement, specifically OSA, OMRI, Oregon Tilth, OTA and certifiers.
  • Supports Vitalis Business Manager with marketing contributions as assigned.

 

  1. Reporting and Other Duties.
  • Written reporting on a monthly basis to the Vitalis Business Manager regarding relevant developments on organic market, product portfolio, pricing, sales & distribution, marketing & PR, competition and trends in the organic market.
  • Handle any complaints, according to set procedure.
  • Discuss and resolve relevant issues with the Customer Service department as it relates to customer satisfaction.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Requirements

JOB PROFILE:

 

Education / knowledge

Bachelor’s/Masters degree in organic agriculture/horticulture and a minimum 5 years seed or organic agriculture industry experience. Bilingual (English/Spanish) preferred. 

 

Skills

Thorough knowledge of organic vegetable and herb cultivation techniques.

Knowledge or organic market and certification processes.

Knowledge of seed production.

Knowledge of seed and plant pathology and diagnostic skills.

Professional, assertive and clear communicative skills (verbal and written; active listener).

Analytical by nature with the ability to compile and analyze data.

Proficient in Microsoft Office applications (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook).

Contacts

Maintains internal contacts with the relevant colleagues in the local and international Sales Teams, Breeders and Crop Specialists, as well as externally with existing and potential customers and the northwest and national organic movement. 

 

Working conditions

Regional travel throughout northwest US and Canada; limited travel to the Netherlands.

Works under varying climate conditions and is exposed to outside working conditions.

Car travel requiring valid driver’s license and clean driving record.

Some desk work using a computer screen.
