Title:                Analytical Associate

Reports to:     Lead Analytical Scientist

Location:         Cambridge, MA

 

Job Description:

Reporting to the Lead Analytical Scientist, the Analytical Associate is a critically important and highly cross-functional position within the organization. The successful candidate will be responsible for analysis of fermentation broths, feedstocks, cell mass, and compositional determination in support of various research and development projects. The qualified candidate is expected to work closely with team members from analytical, fermentation, molecular biology and laboratory operations to ensure on time and accurate analysis, documentation and communication of technical results.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Execute established methods for analysis of fermentation products such as sugars, alcohols, proteins and lipids.
  • Participate in the day to day operation and maintenance of all analytical instruments including HPLC, GC and solvent extraction systems.
  • Assist in method development to meet the ever growing needs of Novogy’s R&D team.
  • Attend regular group and team meetings to provide feedback and contribute to the achievement of overall technical program goals.
  • Keep well organized written and electronic records with concise documentation of procedures and results. 

Requirements

Qualifications and Experience:

  • B.A. Degree  in Chemistry, Biology or related field is required
  • Minimum 1-3 year experience in a research and development laboratory is required
  • Hands-on experience with Gas Chromatography (GC) and High Pressure Liquid Chromatography (HPLC) equipment is required
  • Experience with ThermoFisher hardware and software is a plus
  • Experience with fermentation broth product analysis and lipid analysis is  preferred
  • Knowledge of high throughput assays or GC autosampler for microtiter plates is a plus
  • Experience with electronic record keeping and digital lab notebooks is preferred
  • A strong desire to execute wet lab chemistry protocols
