Borrego Solar Systems, Inc seeks a Sales Associate to join our team in Oakland, CA.

The primary responsibility of this position is to assist the sales team in achieving annual bookings targets, create and maintain proposal generation materials and assist project developers in generating proposals and RFP responses.

Position Responsibilities will include but not be limited to:

  • Assume primary responsibility for ensuring that high-quality sales proposals go out the door. This includes providing the initial review of RFQs and RFPs, directing them to the appropriate sales person, developing a schedule for formulating a response, gathering appropriate documentation for that response, and—with the sales person—crafting a response that is project-specific and emphasizes Borrego’s strengths. It will be your responsibility to ensure that the proposal reaches its destination prior to the submission deadline.
  • Support five to seven people in the creation of tools designed to create efficiency in the sales department. 
  • Standardize the proposal creation process and maintain the language used in offerings submitted to prospective customers. This includes working with multiple internal departments to develop sales material for varying audiences. Assume primary responsibility for ensuring that our templates are clean, aesthetically-pleasing and contain no spelling or grammatical errors.
  • Use Borrego Solar’s tools for modeling solar production, savings, incentives and corresponding ROI of proposed PV systems. 
  • Understand and quickly communicate key buying criteria to qualify “real” opportunities from others. This will involve efficiently gathering data over the phone and simultaneously using online tools to determine if the contact is a good solar prospect.
  • Conduct outreach to qualify sales opportunities according to specific internal metrics.
  • Register and maintain Borrego Solar’s accounts within contracting databases/bid pools/mailing lists, establishing yourself as Borrego’s primary point of contact. Assume primary responsibility for ensuring that the company does not miss a viable business opportunity.
  • Support the Sales team on special projects on an as-needed basis to make the company more competitive.


  • College degree. Coursework in business administration and/or a quantitative discipline is a strong plus.
  • Demonstration of exceptional writing and editing skills, preferably in a business environment.
  • Some experience using quantitative skills to solve business problems.
  • Comfort on the phone and strong interpersonal skills. A good understanding of client service orientation.
  • Exceptional analytical, problem-solving and communication skills. As comfortable communicating in writing as verbally.
  • Amazing time-management skills. 
  • Ability to manage multiple projects in parallel and prioritize competing demands.
  • Able to occasionally work non-traditional hours.
  • High degree of initiative, motivation, flexibility and creativity.
  • Commitment to the solar PV industry.
