Apprenticeship Program: Women in Trades – Electrical and Millwright Apprentice
One Temporary (Up to 24 Months) Full Time Position.

Capital Power is searching for women candidates who are 2nd, 3rd or 4th year Electrical Industrial Technician Apprentices & Millwright Apprentices with diverse abilities, experience, and skill levels who are interested in a career in Power Generation. We are committed to make advancement for women in the Energy Industry workplace.
You will contribute to our team by:
Displaying a willingness to learn and take direction from senior plant personnel. Be punctual and prepared to work on a variety of projects and tasks that are assigned by the Manager.
Acquiring knowledge and understanding of power plant operations and maintenance processes.
Assisting in operating, maintaining, and troubleshooting equipment in the power plant. This equipment can include the gas turbine, generators, air compressors, motors, pumps, fire suppression systems, high and medium voltage electrical equipment, instrument and control systems, extensive use of personal computers and distributed control systems, and all other balance of plant auxiliary equipment.
Supporting the reading of meters, gauges, or automatic devices to record data such as temperature of equipment, vibration of equipment, and hours of operation to verify operating conditions.
Assisting in opening and closing circuit breakers as required for proper system operation and electrical isolation.
Completing ‘Lock-out Tag-out,’ ‘Confined Space,’ and other permits required to perform work on or inspect plant equipment.
Acquiring knowledge and understanding of all applicable Electrical codes and best practices.
Being responsible for maintaining detailed records of instrumentation repairs and calibrations.
Actively participating and contributing to safety programs and initiatives.
Participating in the coordination of updating drawings and prints as required.
Demonstrating a committed, safe, accountable, focused, innovative and achievement-oriented, easy to do business with manner of working.
Creating and maintaining effective relationships amongst team and other groups in the plant.
What you will bring to the role:
Education:
Completed High School Diploma or GED equivalent is required.
Registered as an active 2nd, 3rd or 4th year Electrical Industrial Technician Apprentice, related Electrical trade or Millwright Apprentice within your province from a recognized trade school.
Skills and Experience:
Aptitude in prioritizing and the ability to be accountable and respond to several tasks under possible hazardous and stressful conditions.
Demonstrate excellent communication skills.
Adequate knowledge in the use of Microsoft Office.
Demonstrate mechanical aptitude and dexterity.
Demonstrate the ability to learn and interpret mechanical drawings, logic drawings, and piping and instrument drawings.
Strong math and logic skills.
Must have and maintain a valid driver’s license.
Working Conditions:
Heavy industrial facility designated as a safety sensitive location.
Physical mobility and ability to use PPE required.
Union and out-of-scope workforce.
Additional Details:
Union: Power Workers’ Union (PWU)
Wage: $26.14 per hour.
Hours of Work: 40 hours a week
As this is a safety sensitive position, clearance of a pre-employment drug & alcohol test is required, subject to applicable law.
Clearance of a pre-employment medical will also be required.
In order to be considered for this role you must be legally eligible to work in Canada.
The successful candidate for this position will undergo an education verification, reference checks and criminal record check.
