Who we are looking for

The CNC Machining Engineer will conduct both pre-order and post-order technical review of machined product, develop machining strategies and fixture designs, estimate cycle times and required production routings, and provide general technical support to CNC programming and machining operations.

What you will get to do

Quoting and proposal work:

  • Conduct technical review of customer drawings, models, and specifications
  • Provide feedback on manufacturability, including DFM input on customer designs
  • Determine and establish machining strategy, including number, type, and sequence of machining operations for the product in a way that best utilizes our equipment and capabilities
  • Determine the need for any customized work holding fixtures and/or tooling required to perform the job
  • Evaluate customer and industry specifications applicable to the part, and determine / incorporate those requirements in the machining strategy.
  • Develop machining cycle time estimates and recommended starting material stock size for both product and any custom fixturing required

Post-order activity:

  • Perform similar review described above for any job that did not have that level of review
  • Establish material configuration in ERP system for purchase
  • Review and support entry of routing sequence in ERP system ensuring that it supports the machining strategy developed at quote stage
  • Design custom work holding fixtures to support machining strategy and generate CAD models and drawings used to manufacture them
  • Generate CAD machining assemblies with parts and fixtures to illustrate work holding and machining strategy for programmers
  • Provide input for product inspection plans

Additional Responsibilities: Assisting in optimization and/or troubleshooting of programs and processes on the manufacturing floor by collaborating with engineering, production, and quality personnel to achieve desired outcomes.

What you bring to the team

  • Preferred 4-year engineering or technology degree from accredited university
  • Minimum of 5 years of CNC programming experience in a precision metals machining production environment, including 3, 4, and 5 axis milling equipment
  • Experience designing and developing machining work holding fixtures
  • Experience developing machining strategies and estimating run times
  • Experience with an ERP system and Quality Management System
  • Aerospace industry experience preferred
  • Proficiency with Solidworks and generating CAD models and assemblies
  • Proven understanding of and experience applying GD&T
  • Familiarity with industry process and material specifications, and ability to translate those requirements to machining strategies
  • Ability to provide DFM input and feedback on customer designs commensurate with our manufacturing capabilities
  • Excellent problem solving skills, high level of attention to detail, and ability to help resolve issues quickly
