We are seeking a skilled Senior Direct Materials Buyer to join our Monterrey team and play a key role in the strategic procurement of materials essential for our battery manufacturing processes.

Job Overview: The Capital Expenditure Category Buyer will be responsible for developing and managing procurement strategies for capital expenditure categories. This role involves leveraging procurement projects to drive efficiencies, reduce risks, and achieve key performance indicators (KPIs). The successful candidate will collaborate with internal stakeholders, manage supplier relationships, and oversee the entire procurement lifecycle for capital projects.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Category Strategy Development:
    • Build and manage procurement strategies for capital expenditure categories, ensuring alignment with Clarios’ business objectives.
    • Partner with internal stakeholders to identify opportunities for cost savings, operational efficiencies, and risk reduction.
    • Develop and maintain category plans that drive cost savings, innovation, and continuous improvement.
  • Procurement and Supplier Management:
    • Lead the end-to-end procurement process for capital expenditures, including sourcing, negotiating, and managing contracts with suppliers.
    • Identify, evaluate, qualify, contract, onboard, and develop new vendors and suppliers to meet capital project requirements.
    • Address strategic vendor issues to ensure optimal service delivery and maintain strong contractual and business relationships.
    • Negotiate pricing on capital goods and services, ensuring timely delivery and compliance with project requirements.
  • Contract Management:
    • Negotiate commercial contracts with suppliers, collaborating with Legal and stakeholders to secure favorable terms.
    • Oversee the execution of procurement change initiatives to enhance business performance and ensure compliance with procurement processes.
  • Performance Measurement and Reporting:
    • Define and achieve a broad range of KPIs (e.g., savings, risk management, innovation) for assigned capital expenditure categories.
    • Track, measure, and report on vendor performance and procurement activities to identify improvement opportunities.
  • Market and Supplier Analysis:
    • Develop expert knowledge of global supply markets, competitors, and product innovations relevant to capital expenditures.
    • Conduct spend analyses, supply market research, and industry benchmarking.
  • Process Improvement:
    • Identify and implement innovative procurement solutions to drive efficiencies and achieve cashable savings.
    • Manage the source-to-settle process and leverage data to optimize procurement practices.
  • Collaboration and Problem-Solving:
    • Work with suppliers and internal departments (logistics, engineering, manufacturing, quality, and other support groups) to resolve potential disruptions and ensure a continuous supply of materials.
    • Address unforeseen problems with suppliers related to operations, purchasing, or quality/performance.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Business Administration, Supply Chain Management, Finance, or a related field.
  • Minimum of 5 years of experience in procurement or supply chain management, with a focus on capital expenditures.
  • Strong analytical, problem-solving, and decision-making skills.
  • Excellent communication, negotiation, and interpersonal skills in both English and Spanish.
  • Proven ability to work collaboratively with cross-functional teams and build strong relationships with internal and external stakeholders.
  • In-depth knowledge of procurement processes, sourcing strategies, and supplier relationship management.
  • Experience with procurement software and tools (e.g., SAP, Zycus) and advanced MRP/ERP systems.
  • Familiarity with capital expenditure project management and financial analysis.
  • Strong understanding of plant operations and the ability to constructively solve problems in a complex, cross-functional environment.
  • Ability to prioritize value, influence without authority, and take initiative on projects to achieve goals.
