POSITION OVERVIEW:

This is a leadership role for the finance functions of Athene in Apollo India. This role will lead the assigned team and will be expected to deliver on objectives by leveraging on commitments on cost, time, and optimizing the solutions. This role will oversee accounting activities which may include preparation, maintenance and reconciliation of ledger accounts and preparation of financial statement disclosures, as well as planning and analysis, and related finance and finance system support functions. Ensures the integrity of accounting records and compliance with internal and external accounting policies and standards.

PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES

The role encompasses a broad spectrum of responsibilities, including but not limited to:

  • Supervise individuals performing a range of accounting and finance functions, including:

    • Investment accounting on a US GAAP and US Statutory basis

    • Investment performance analytics and disclosures on a US GAAP, SEC and US Statutory basis

    • US statutory accounting and reporting for life insurance and separate accounts

    • Reinsurance accounting on a GAAP and US statutory basis

    • US SEC and GAAP basis insurance company consolidation and reporting

    • Tax accounting / reporting on a US Statutory basis

    • Blackline system administration

    • Finance transformation (e.g. process improvement, system implementation project testing, Alteryx or Power BI solutions)

  • Support the accounting and financial analysis of investments and reporting of disclosures and key performance indicators.

  • Maintain and update process documentation and support audit requests to ensure accuracy and compliance.

  • Support reinsurance accounting processes and the impact of reinsurance arrangements on other reporting functions and processes.

  • Lead/Drive transformation within the Athene Finance area enhancing process efficiencies.

  • Build and foster close relationships with Apollo and other Athene business areas.

  • Develop and lead a team of professionals by setting expectations, mentoring and coaching, driving results, sharing strategic direction, collaborating and communicating effectively.

Functional and Project/ Change Management

  • Responsible for ensuring the book of work for different finance teams is delivered on timely basis

  • Responsible directly for managing any projects or any other book of work-related projects kicked off globally or locally

  • Focus on control environment, build controls on manual and risky processes, nurture control culture within the team

  • Trouble shoot on issues within the finance team on critical and time bound issues

Leadership & Team Management:

  • Provide leadership oversight and strong working relationship with Athene and Apollo India across various levels leadership.

  • Support the recruitment build and training of new employees and manage aspects of day-to-day operations (e.g., team communications, seating, org charts, team best practices, etc) for the assigned team.

  • Lead for a people centered leadership and engagement, drive to promote positive, engaged culture, do efficient talent, performance and attrition management, support and implement Athene's strategic and tactical objectives.

  • Partner with the Leadership Team to lead efforts on culture, including but not limited to: Team building, cross-training, organizing/leading regular meetings, coordinating social events, citizenship/Benevity efforts.

Communication & Connectivity:

  • Fosters oneness, pride and belonging part of Athene and Apollo Family.

  • Develop deep, trusted relationships with India employees and global managers.

  • Ensure communications and pertinent updates are disseminated effectively to the team.

  • Partners with various departments and support teams at Athene and Apollo India teams to improve the quality and timely delivery of projects and assigned tasks.

Operational Efficiency & Financial Management

  • Responsible for timely reporting and escalation of issues that impact delivery for Athene. Identifies potential risk areas – people, process, delivery, external and country specific issues that can impact delivery outcomes and compliance.

  • Responsible for the team, daily cycle management, approvals, rewards and recognition and any portfolio specific initiatives, staying abreast of competitive activities, industry best practices and influences, economic and country indicators for better outcomes, risk management and for retention of the team.

  • Participate and provide thought leadership in Athene's – Apollo relationship to the site leader, including driving optimization of quality skills, productivity, performance, and sustainable costs.

  • Contribute to the annual planning and budgeting processes (comp and non-comp) with a focus on the India team.

  • Review processes and adherence to agreed processes and procedures and implementation of Athene standards, address miscellaneous tactical issues during daily operations.

  • Proactively identify areas that would benefit from additional process/procedure/discipline and bring the right people together to determine and implement solutions.

  • Promote a culture of continuous improvement and have an innovation mindset to bring in efficiencies

Qualifications & Experience

  • CA, MBA / Bachelor’s degree in finance or related field required;
  • 10+ years’ experience working in finance or life insurance industries.
  • Experience with life and annuity reinsurance preferred.
  • 7+ years’ experience managing offshore teams and working across different functions.
  • Proven relationship management experience with focus on interacting with senior management and key stakeholders across the organization and deep, proven ability to influence stakeholders.
  • Ability to navigate and appreciate the nuances of working in a matrix organization and multi- reporting structures.
  • Ability to set and manage priorities in a changing work environment is essential.
  • Ability to operate in complex environment with multiple stakeholders across the platform.
  • Excellent oral and written English language skills.
  • Understanding of different aspects of finance function. Experience leading finance and actuarial teams.
  • Ability to work schedules that overlap business hours in both the United States and India including a split-day schedule.
  • Familiarity with finance tools, including financial reporting, investment accounting, reinsurance, and general accounting, etc.
  • Proactive and organized self-starter with a positive attitude, demonstrated work ethic, strong attention to detail.
