We are looking for a Director Legal, Senior Counsel (m/f/d), Water Infrastructure DACH, Iberia and MCS Europe to join our corporate Legal team. This position will be primarily responsible for providing world-class business partnership to Xylem’s various businesses and functions in primarily the DACH (Germany, Austria and Switzerland) and Iberia (Spain and Portugal) regions by helping enable Xylem’s strategy while at the same time safe guarding the company’s reputation.
Location: Schaffhausen in Switzerland (Xylem Europe Headquarter)
Essential Duties/Principal Responsibilities:
- Partnering with and providing timely and practical advice to the business primarily in the regions in all day-to-day legal issues, including advice on agreements in support of company’s expanding digital offerings, such as SaaS/NaaS, software and licensing agreements, large public bids, product and service supply agreements, key account/framework agreements, channel partner agreements (agents and distributors), rental and maintenance agreements, general corporate and governance issues (including all matter involving the management of entities in the regions) and labour and employment laws
- Managing litigation and providing practical legal advice in connection with day-to-day commercial disputes with business partners and other third parties
- Closely partnering with business clients to implement, monitor and continuously improve legal processes and controls that mitigate risk while enabling commercial activities
- Developing and deploying training and tools to clients in order to scale up the reach and effectiveness of legal services in the regions
- Managing outside counsel and other service providers in the management of certain legal matters affecting Xylem’s business in the regions and holding such provider accountable to budgets
- Providing compliance-related advice in connection with the execution of the company’s robust global compliance program
- On occasion, assisting with various aspects of mergers and acquisitions and other inorganic growth initiatives that may take place in the regions or elsewhere, including due diligence review and post-acquisition legal and compliance integration planning
Qualifications: Education, Experience, Skills, Abilities, License/Certification:
- Legal degree and qualification to practice law in an EU Member State
- Solid experience in handling commercial legal matters in the relevant jurisdictions and from an international perspective
- Good knowledgeable of German laws and preferably also of other laws in the regions, especially those impacting commercial operations of the businesses located in the regions
- Ability to work with multi-functional teams and provide appropriate training
- Preferably equal or similar position held with international company with strong compliance program
- Must be able to conduct business, including contract reviews and participation in meetings, in English and German (other language beneficial)
- Strong verbal, written and interpersonal skills
- Ability to demonstrate good judgment and plan, prioritize and handle multiple job responsibilities/projects and meet deadlines
- Ability to work well in a team environment
- Excellent organization skills and attention to detail
