*This position will be hired at either a level I or level II based on experience*
The Systems Operations Engineering (SOE) Engineer primarily supports the Duke Energy Florida Energy Control Center functions. This position develops various seasonal operating studies/reliability assessments for operations. This includes work necessary to comply with all applicable Reliability Standards for Bulk Electric Systems and Operating/Interconnection Agreements. The Engineer I position is the entry level of the Engineering classification hierarchy. Employees in the Engineer I position solve problems in engineering areas of specialization with close supervision. An Engineer I is expected to develop skills, and the ability to work with greater independence. An Engineer I has knowledge of fundamental concepts and procedures. The Engineer II position is the intermediate level of the Engineering classification hierarchy. Employees in the Engineer II position solve complex problems in engineering areas of specialization with general supervision. An Engineer II is expected to develop advanced skills, and the ability to work with greater independence. An Engineer II effectively applies fundamental concepts and procedures to work that is fairly complex and varied.
Perform operational planning studies and reliability assessments--working with others in Systems Operations; Transmission System Planning; and counterparts with neighboring companies--participating in reliability and interconnection agreements
Develop real-time operations solutions on the transmission system, including development of operational procedures to change transmission system configuration or re-dispatch of generation to manage loading concerns
Resolve operating issues with all stakeholders including generation entities, neighboring systems, and various load serving entities connected to the transmission system
Participate in pre/post-operating assessment studies of system performance
Provide emergency support during storms and operating emergencies
Conduct special studies as required for corporate planning purposes or in support of compliance administration programs for FERC and North American Electric Reliability Organization (NERC) requirements
Provide support of the Energy Management System by ensuring accuracy of the transmission network modeling and equipment ratings
Facilitate ongoing Duke Energy and FRCC compliance with FERC and NERC requirements including development and review of appropriate documentation
Represent Duke Energy on Regional Entity working groups and/or groups associated with Reliability
Possesses and applies the fundamental concepts, practices and procedures; demonstrates proficiency in technical competencies and has ability to interpret technical information and instructions.
Develops positive working relationships to effectively coordinate work activities. Demonstrates effective oral and written communication skills. Maintains accurate records and files.

Currently enrolled in a Bachelor of Science in Engineering at an ABET accredited institution with an anticipated graduation date by May 2025. Student must successfully complete and obtain their degree prior to their scheduled start date.
A Master's degree in Engineering will be considered in lieu of the B.S. Engineering degree
Bachelor of Science in Engineering obtained from an ABET accredited program, OR a masterβs degree in Engineering in lieu of a Bachelor of Science in Engineering
Minimum of two (2) years of engineering experience
Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering
Passing grade on the Engineering Fundamentals Exam.
NERC Certified Operator
Understanding of basic engineering theories and principles.
Understanding of basic practices of researching engineering and design issues, evaluating alternatives, making sound recommendations and preparing and presenting recommendations.
Ability to deal with a variety of individuals from various socio-economic, cultural and ethnic backgrounds.
Good written and oral communication skills.
Understanding of basic principles of project management.
Experience in the utility industry.
Department specific experience applicable to the hiring department.
Hybrid β Work will be performed from both remote and onsite locations after the onboarding period. However, hybrid employees should live within a reasonable commute to the designated Duke Energy facility.
