SP Energy Networks (SPEN) is transforming its Telecoms function! Telecoms are a key part of the network’s business and a cornerstone in the evolution towards Net Zero.

Reporting to the Telecoms Operations and Delivery Manager, the Engineering & Delivery Lead is responsible for the engineering , deployment and delivery of Telecoms projects, as well as management of the E&D Telecoms sub-team.

It’s a newly created role, where you will be part of an exciting journey in ScottishPower Energy Network to create a new telecoms operating model. It’s an opportunity for an existing lead to gain enhanced responsibility or development opportunity to move into a lead position.

Role:

As E&D Lead, you will report to the Telecoms Operations and Delivery Manager the E&D and will be responsible for the engineering , deployment and delivery of Telecoms projects, leading a team of skilled Telecoms engineers. Fostering a culture of collaboration, High performance, reliability, engaging and continuous improvement, this role is essential for the successful delivery of Telecoms projects, both for our customers and our own regulatory commitments.

Based in Scotland, this role will require a passion for leading people, working in partnership with our supply chain and having a can do attitude.


What you’ll be doing

The Engineering & Deployment Lead will be responsible for managing the total service provision to all the Energy Networks business units for operational Telecom requirements on project delivery.

You’ll be responsible for the management of team of external contractors, as well as line management of a team of engineers sitting within the Telecoms Engineering and Deployment sub team in the SPT/SPD area.

You’ll collaborate with peers to ensure consistency across the network, provide weekly reporting updates on Telecoms activities and ensure workload is a coordinated and managed to meet project success.

Responsibilities will include but not limited too;

  • Recommending annual programme of work and budgetary requirements,

  • Oversee the submission of work packages to the Telecoms contractor including tracking KPIs,

  • Ensure project designs are submitted to contractors in a timely basis in line with stakeholder needs and budget.

  • Manage stakeholder engagement with Licence areas by chairing monthly meetings covering Risks, Issues and Demand Planning,

  • Prioritise project delivery requirements and be the point of escalation for SPEN business project deliverables,

  • Assist with the identification and preparation of budgets and manage CAPEX spend against project, task, and activity budgets,

  • Ensure team forecast CAPEX in line with business requirements and report to Telecoms manager,

  • Work with the business to plan and prioritise projects that require Telecoms input.

What you’ll bring

We’re looking for candidates with a degree in electrical, electronic or telecoms engineering or relevant discipline, supported with a minimum of 5 years engineering or industry experience.

An individual with experience managing teams of engineers or looking to gain experience in a lead role. You’ll be a confident communicator, with strong interpersonal skills, able to influence at senior stakeholder level and partner with internal customers.

Be able think strategically, and prioritise and devise solutions to complex problems in a timely manner.

Experience in change or project management and good MS Office Skills.

Knowledge of telecoms networks, architectures, equipment, and vendors.

Basic awareness of cyber security standards and policies.

Minimum Requirements:

  • Experience of managing multiple delivery partners

  • Min 2+ years experience of leading people

  • Exposure to CDM regulations

  • Track record of successfully managing customers and expectations

  • Proven exposure to the Telecoms processes and procedure
