Position Summary
The Engineering Technologist position is the non-Engineer degreed technical support role. An Engineering Technologist provides technical expertise to solve more complex problems and leadership skills to provide oversight and direction of work in a specific area of expertise, with some supervision. Employees in the Engineering Technologist position are expected to develop advanced skills and the ability to work with a high degree of independence.
This position is part of the Substation Engineering team located in Cincinnati, OH. This work group is responsible for the design of electrical substations (new and existing). Design projects range from routine equipment replacements to the complete design of new transmission substations.
This position coordinates work to manage multiple tasks simultaneously, utilizing a variety of tools and techniques to design a substation project, including current design specifications, pertinent code manuals, computer aided design/drafting software, and other reference sources. Final product is an engineering release package consisting of pertinent drawings and bill of material. The position will also provide design support to field personnel during project implementation.
Normal job functions are performed on a Monday through Friday schedule with occasional travel required. The duties of this position include operation of a motor vehicle; a valid driverβs license and acceptable driving record are required.

Basic Qualifications Engineering Technologist III
Associates Degree in Engineering Technology AND
5 years minimum required related experience
In Lieu of Degree, High School / GED AND 9 years minimum required related experience
Basic Qualifications Sr. Engineering Technologist
Associates Degree in Engineering Technology AND
8 years minimum required related experience
In Lieu of Degree, High School / GED AND 12 years minimum required related experience
Additional Preferred Qualifications
Good written and oral communication skills.
Knowledge of electrical substations/design and ability to produce construction documents.
Demonstrated proficiency with engineering computer packages, including AutoCAD, Autodesk Inventor, Bluebeam etc.
Demonstrated ability to quickly grasp new techniques, deal with rapid changes in priorities, and remain calm and effective in stressful situations.
Demonstrated ability to meet required deadlines while simultaneously completing other tasks.
Demonstrated ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with peers, partners, customers, and the public by adapting to various personality styles in a professional manner.
Understanding of basic principles of project management.
Expertise with indexing documents thru Fusion or equivalent document management system.
Interfacing with external consulting firms to complete document management requests.
Working Conditions
Hybrid β Work will be performed from both remote and onsite locations after the onboarding period. However, hybrid employees should live within a reasonable commute to their designated Duke Energy facility.
Specific Requirements
Demonstrated ability to work with a variety of individuals from various socio-economic, cultural and ethnic backgrounds.
Good written and oral communication skills.
Either 3+ years of relevant industry experience coupled with a Bachelor of Science in Engineering Technology (or equivalent), or 5+ years of experience and Associate Degree in Engineering Technology (or equivalent), or 9+ years equivalent experience without a degree.
