NREL’s Site Operations group is looking for a senior Facilities Manager to oversee all facility-related activities, primarily for industrial-type facilities like laboratory buildings, computing facilities, or central utility plants. Responsibilities include collaborating with researchers, program managers, technicians, engineers, and environmental safety and health personnel for activities conducted within buildings, conducting plan of the week meetings with stakeholders, ensuring that facilities are safe and functioning well, and resolving issues received from building occupants. The successful candidate will be well-versed in technical/engineering operations and facilities management best practices, capable of inspecting buildings’ systems and structures to determine repairs or renovations, and have excellent verbal and written communication and organizational skills. This position may also support facility manager duties at landlord-type facilities like office buildings, conference/educational facilities, and parking structures.
General responsibilities include:
Planning building maintenance and operational programs.
Ensuring efficiency of all building systems, including energy systems, sequencing, and executing on results of energy audits.
Coordinating site safety programs in collaboration with ESH&Q, ensuring research activities and mechanical operations are reviewed and approved for safe execution.
Preparing operating reports and budgets, creating operational deficiency reports, identifying estimates for equipment replacement and maintenance work, and soliciting funds.
Ensuring all processes and compliance programs are met in collaboration with research planning and site operations to ensure workflows are supportive of research.
Managing facilities planning and space allocation in collaboration with space planners in site operations.
Coordinating with department heads and building contractors to ensure work timelines do not affect research operations.
Ensuring all utility systems are inspected and in accordance with regulations.
Overseeing all building functions integral to infrastructure.
Coordinating all maintenance issues and schedules in collaboration with general maintenance, mechanical, and electrical trade teams.
