Lead Engineer to serve as Subject Matter Expert (SME) for Inverter Based Resource (IBR) generation (solar and bulk energy storage/battery). The Lead Engineer/SME will provide technical support for operations, maintenance, project, and NERC compliance activities for IBR generation across multiple geographic regions. The Lead Engineer is at the specialist level of the Engineering classification hierarchy. Employees at this level solve complex problems, manage work , and provide leadership to others in engineering areas of specialization, with minimal supervision and increased latitude for un-reviewed work. The Lead Engineer serves in lead roles providing guidance to others. They are also expected to have advanced skills and have the ability to work independently.
Inverter Based Resource SME will provide technical support for equipment issues at solar and bulk energy storage generation facilities. SME will work with plant operations and maintenance personnel to support equipment troubleshooting, SME will coordinate compliance with applicable NERC Standards, including new standards recently adopted for IBR sites.
Skilled in the practices of researching engineering and design issues, evaluating alternatives, making sound recommendations and preparing and presenting recommendations.
Good written and oral communication skills.
Skilled in principles of project management.
Experience in the utility industry.
Experience with design, construction, commissioning, and/or process engineering support for solar or bulk energy storage generation facilities
Experience with utility industry process control and automation equipment
Experience with utility industry system protection/relay engineering and/or disturbance monitoring equipment
Experience with NERC Operations and Planning (O&P) standards
Bachelor’s degree in Engineering and minimum 8 years related work experience.
This position will support inverter-based resource generation facilities in all of Duke Energy’s operating regions.
Routine travel within the home region will be required (~20-40%). Occasional travel to other regions will be required (5-10%)
Hybrid Mobility Classification – Work will be performed from both remote and onsite locations after the onboarding period. However, hybrid employees should live within a reasonable daily commute to a Duke Energy facility.
Must have obtained Bachelor of Science in Engineering from an ABET accredited program or PE
Registration as a Professional Engineer may be required by some departments. (e.g. Transmission, Distribution, Gas Engg, RRE).
A Master's degree in Engineering will be considered in lieu of the B.S. Engineering degree.
